Because he didn't commit a crime..nor was he accused of commiting one.
He did commit a crime and has since been charged. The issue is he didn't tell the team about his arrest/detainment and it came out while they were in trade talks. Which the Kings and the NHL agreed was cause to terminate his contract.

That's a pretty different ballpark than what Kane is accused of though.
it is different and unlike Kane and Voynov, Richards never reported his legal problems to the Kings which he is required to do.

It does make you wonder why he was late though. Like, imagine if his rental car broke down or something and now he's cut.

Wow, that's a lot of faith in a guy who's only played 77 NHL games. He looks like he has great upside, but 7 years north of 4million is quite the commitment.

I'll admit, Klef looks like he could be a solid #3-4D who logs big minutes.

That is an insane commitment for someone who isn't proven.. In two years it could look awesome, or it could look horrible.. Either way, 7 years is a long time when you have A LOT of young stars to hold on to
