Now the team has an owner with $ this off-season is really BA's first opportunity to throw some cash around. He's probably got the 'go ahead" and instructions to spend more by ownership. And I'm sure he's quite happy about it.

I like the Idea if going big in FA but not sure I like the age of those two on a huge and long contract.

I guess Rantanen and Marner are corner cases, both are around the age of Schmaltz and only one or two years older than Keller, but still signing them would lock them in up to their age 35 season, if they sign a max term deal - you never know

Let's see how we end up this year before we give out high fives or pitch forks. I, as a fan, expected Utah to be in the playoffs this year. I might be a year early on that prediction. If the season ended today Utah would have 83pts. The last wild card would have 92pts. I don't think 83pts. is a real good jump, but maybe on a team like Utah where talent is still lacking, and the injuries they have had, maybe, just maybe us fans should be happy. Utah just can't get that consistency to go on that winning streak.

The effort is there, not the results. Time will tell.

That's why AT finally came to his senses and put Cooley there.
You're def a year early on your prediction. Most people did not expect Utah to make the ploffs this year. Most figured they'd be in the wildcard hunt right to the end of the season, which is happening as we speak. Idk what all the hysteria and panic is about? This team is improving year over year, and one way to see that is based on their goal differential. Sitting at a -9, which is better than Calgary and Vancouver's.

Keller - Status Quo
Schmaltz - Status Quo
Hayton - Has taken a step forward
Cooley - Has taken a step forward
Guenther - Has take a step forward
Maccelli - taken a step back
Crouse - taken a step back
Kerfoot - Status Quo
Bjugstad - taken a step back
Carcone - taken a step back
Mcbain - Status Quo
Doan - improving on both ends of the ice
Stenlund - first year

Sergachev - first year
Marino - first year
Durzi - injured
Kesselring - taken a step forwarad
matta - first year
valimaki - taken a step backwards
cole - first year

Vejmelka - taken a step forward
Ingram - taken a step backward

All in all I think the coaching staff has done a good job with our young players, which is exactly what we want. The only young guy who has regressed is Maccelli.

When BA took over, I guarantee you the projection wasn't 6 years before we make the playoffs. 83 point pace now, we need 15 more next year to get in, thats a pretty big improvement, it might be year 7 until we make the playoffs.

I hope the team catches fire and makes it in this season but I doubt that happens, 20% chance right now, those are long odds. There is no objective way to say things are going great with the rebuild, its taking too long and we are far from the playoffs in year 5. Maybe BA/Bear aren't the guys to run this and take the next steps, verdict is mixed at this point.

I'm not really for going crazy in UFA, especially not for wingers, but it would be nice to plug in another top six player without waiting to develop one.

Rantanen Cooley Guenther
Keller Hayton Schmaltz
Maccelli McBain Doan
Crouse Stenlund But

Sergachev Marino
Simashev Durzi
Maatta Kesselring

Every year the final pts. are different. This year, if you pro rate the Canucks, they would get in with 92pts. and Utah would be at 83pts., so that is a nine pt. difference. Next year the goal has to be the playoffs, no excuses, not even injuries.

He was getting those dirty goals in front of the net.

When Bear swapped Cooley in his place it gave the first line another level of speed (that gives opponents absolute fits when it's clicking) at the expense of a net front presence.
Glad you brought it up. I feel like Hayton is still working on his net front presence. He still gets in too close to the crease, to be as effective as he could be on rebounds, imo.
