IMO we still need a few more goalies in our system, especially with the situation we currently have. The depth chart shows Lundqvist, Talbot, LeNeveu, Missiaen, and Stajcer with Grummit-Morris and Malcolm as AHL contracts. After Talbot there is a serious drop off. So in my mind I'm going to assume for next year that LeNeveu, Missiaen, and Stajcer are gone as well as Grummit-Morris. They'll keep Malcolm since this is will be his 2nd year as a pro so hopefully he'd gain some experience and they'll sign Skapski to an entry level and add him into the mix. Lundqvist and Talbot aren't booted off the island. That would leave us at 4 contracted goalies. Way too little. We should definitely draft at least 1 if not 2 goalies this year or draft 1 and sign one out of Europe or NCAA (most likely route). Now I haven't been following on goalies as much this year than I have in the past, but I'll post each draft eligible goalie's stats so far this year as per elite prospects and hopefully inspire you all to start conversing about our future in net. If I miss anyone that intrigues you please feel free to reply. Without further interruption here's the list of net-minders that are eligible:

Now I got the list from the NHL's Central Scouting Rankings and each list above shows their rankings from the top being the worst prospect to the bottom being the best. From looking at the stats, I'm pleasantly intrigued by some of this years crop of goalies, but please tell me what you guys think!!

PS-- I know he isn't in any of the NHL's rankings, but I had to throw Luka Gracnar's name out there. He's a very solid goaltender that's a bit on the small side, but he's representing Slovenia at the Olympic Games this year and he can show some stellar saves like the one where he stops Stamkos in the World Hockey Championship not too long ago.

If this team was able to draft Ritchie, we'd have one huge group of wingers. Kreider, Nash, Ritchie, and then Zuccarello (). I don't see him being available realistically to where we finish though.

Does the MDZ trade make drafting someone like Deangelo or Honka more of a necessity now?

Does the MDZ trade make drafting someone like Deangelo or Honka more of a necessity now?

imo it has zero impact because 1)its a mistake to draft based on need, draft based on talent and potential cause you never know how your team needs might change a few years down the road...and 2)mdz wasn't really providing any offense anyway. so the need for offense from the blueline existed before the trade

Posted this on the prospects board, asking Corey Pronman about Julius Honka and Anthony DeAngelo. I think if we have two 1st this year, Julius Honka would be a good pick with one of them if he is available. DeAngelo reminds me of DelZotto. Good offensively, scary defensively.

Anthony DeAngelo or Julius Honka. Who is the the better prospect and why?

Thanks !

Corey:

Probably, although not sure he's significantly more skilled than Ekblad. He has more pure raw offensive skill/puck abilities, but don't see a big difference on projected points. That's always an issue.

Honka can defend well for his size. DeAngelo scares me in his own zone.

Russian newspaper Sport-express reported that NYR Russian scout Vladimir Lutchenko attended KHL game between Severstal and Spartak yesterday to watch Rangers prospect Pavel Buchnevich and also Spartak's 2014 draft eligible goalie Igor Shestyorkin. Shestyorkin didn't have a good game, being substituted in the middle of second period after letting 5 goals, but I doubt that he was that bad, just because Spartak is playing horrible these days and are now on 17 game losing streak.

Shestyorkin? Okay I guess. Thanks for the note :)

i hope Buch comes to NA whenever he is ready..

i hope Sather does what he can to sign him... Rangers need to take a gamble with more Zuccarello type forwards. guys with skill that can play.......

When you said he's another Zuccarello I assumed you meant he was like 5' 6" or 5' 7". He's 5' 11". I'd absolutely take a chance on him.

Zucc has been our best player most nights, playing in all zones at level 11, and coming through when we need him most, I'd think it'd be a tad unrealistic to throw those expectations onto a guy like Malykhin at this point.

Zucc, like Henrik, was SEl MVP at a young age. This kid isn't on the Russian roster, I think it would be unfair to link every decent scoring mighty mite in Eureopean leagues to Zuccarello.

i was comparing that both were european UFA.. of course they are not the same type of player.. at worst its just a contract. def worth the risk...

If he's still available in the mid to late rounds I'd really like to take a flier on Oliver Cooper of Saint John in the QMJHL. Big, rugged winger who wears an A and fights whenever necessary. Having a good year offensively, 48 points in 55 games so far.

If we're perusing the juniors for overagers, Dane Fox was one set of great stats that caught my eye.

I thought he'd have been a great pickup.

Cooper is still draft eligible. Born in March 1995.

watch the Flyers select him.. it wouldnt shock me.. Rangers should draft these type of forwards.

yea... the Canucks signed him

While Rangers signed Michael Kantor who has 0 pts in 27 games 113 pim in the AHL... :shakehead

i did not think Kantor would be that bad in the AHL
