On the Monday rumor mill on tsn, the Ducks were said to be offering Sbisa, Souray, & both their 1sts this year (Ottawa's & their own) for Girardi. If that trade happens, we'd have three 1sts (hurray for math :handclap:). Who would you guys pick in those projected spots (say 8th, 17th, & 27th)? I would choose Draisaitl (pipe dream for that spot)/Honka/Tuch

I highly doubt Anaheim would make that offer. If they do offer that, TAKE IT!!! I think Souray is a UFA, Sbisa gives you a body for now, and the 3 no. 1 picks help the future. The picks gives them flexibility in the draft if they want to move up in the first round for a top 10 pick.

If that is true I would really have a hard time turning that down and I'm against dealing Girardi. That makes me think it's probably BS cause Slats woulda signed off on that right away.

If that's true, I'd take that deal and run... Sbisa is pretty useless, but Souray would be a nice add, and then the two 1sts are a big bonus. Ideally we package them up and try to trade up, but even if we couldn't do that, I'd take the deal.

Not to be a downer, but TSN misquoted the original article which said:

There’s lots of conjecture that the Anaheim Ducks, rolling along with the best record in hockey, still want to upgrade their back end and are sniffing around New York Rangers’ shot-blocking unrestricted free agent defenceman Dan Girardi. They’ve got lots of assets to deal — Luca Sbisa, who is coming off wrist surgery soon, maybe Sheldon Souray, who is also out after damaging his wrist, prospects and their own first-round draft pick in June. They won’t deal the draft pick they got from the Ottawa Senators for Bobby Ryan.

So it's basically saying that the Ducks might be willing to deal some combination of prospects, Sbisa, Souray, and their 1st round pick for Girardi. Nothing about both players and both 1st round picks.

Why would the Rangers take back a bad player with term on his contract in a deal for Girardi who isn't signed past this season? If its an expiring contract, different story. If its a good player, different story.

I could see them giving Sbisa a shot, but not Souray. Sbisa has a reasonable cap hit for one more season, and I think he has the qualities that the Rangers like in reclamation projects.

If they indeed offering two first round picks I wouldn't have any problems with taking on a player we don't really want for a year.

Goldobin reminds me of Buchnevich when he has the puck on his stick. Good playmaker, high skill. Away from the puck he's a work in progress, as expected.

I would love to get Jared Mccann or Julius Honka, but at this point it looks like both will be top 12-15.

I like Draisaitl a lot, but I don't think I could rank him above Ekblad or Reinhart.

I have a hard time justifying him over Dal Colle even. LD is a very good player, but I just think Dal Colle is going to be an explosive talent. Reinhart is going to be a great two way center. Scouts had doubt about Ekblad's offense, but he's starting to come alive there.

Draisaitl isn't even in my top 5 right now. I have Reinhart, Ekblad, Dal Colle, Bennett, and Ritchie all ahead of him.

He's in my top-5, but I think Ekblad and Reinhart are the clear #1 and #2 this year. There might be more upside in guys like Draisaitl, Dal Colle and Bennett, but I think the other two are more polished. You roll the dice with upside on a #5 pick, not with the #1 or #2 pick.

IMO, one of Bennett or Draisaitl will be the best offensive center in the draft, but neither will ever have the complete game of a guy like Reinhart. As a very loose analogy, it's a Toews vs Stamkos kind of thing.

Reinhart is a very safe bet to be a Bergeron type of center, IMO. LD and Bennett may have the higher ceilings, but as you mentioned, are much bigger gambles.

Nick Ritchie is the big wild card. He's a manchild if I ever saw one. He's going to play at 6'3" 240 once in the NHL. He's no Kreider, but he moves well for a big man, and with his frame, that's a scary thought. He could be a better Lucic, or he could end up like Shawn Thornton. Guy's an absolute psycho, he would give most heavys in the league a run for their money once he gets a little more pro experience. I just think his unique skillset and frame is going to make a GM fall in love. If Calgary is picking in the top 5, I'll put money on the fact that Burke is taking him.

That said, if Ritchie goes top 5, that pushes a very good player down. After that, there's a drop off until the 12th pick or so. The second tier is made up of McCann, Fleury, Ehlers, Nylander, Kapanen, and Perlini. Risers like Kempe, Honka, and Larkin might play themselves in and make the 2nd tier of the 1st round bigger.

Nikita Scherbak stood out for me offensively in the prospects game tonight. Having a very good year in the dub. Really solid vision on the wing and a very good skater. Can create with his feet moving.

Goldobin is incredibly fun to watch. DeAngelo does a great job of finding him in open ice on the rush as well. Natural chemistry there.

Yeah Scherbak has been great, I like him alot. He just turned 18, easily Saskatoons best player. Imagine if he played on a good team what he'd be doing? He'd be up there with Barbashev in the rankings, no doubt.

Goldobin and Deangelo are very slick. I still think Honka is a better all around Dman than Deangelo.

I posted this on the prospects board regarding Alex Tuch: "If the NYR's still own their first come June, this is the kind of guy they would take. Upstate NY hometown, Power Forward, JT Miller Comparison, headed to Boston College."

Im calling it now ;)

Scherback was flying in the last 5 minutes. I saw him listed at 175, but he looks much bigger. He had one play where he flew down the wing and zipped a bullet of a pass cross ice right on the tape, while he was at full speed. Then he ran down the counter attack, but kind of gave up at the blue line once the puck moved away from his man. Really, really impressive.

I agree about Honka. DeAngelo is a little more dynamic, but he's reckless. That's going to be an issue. I do like his chippyness though.

Tuch does seem like a typical Rangers pick. Wouldn't it be nice if we could nab 2 or even 3 of these guys in the first?

Baldwinsville has been cranking out some nice hockey players of late. That US team is full of great NY state players, next year Greenway would be a dream pick.

Unfortunately Tuch is a BC player next year onwards, but its hard to argue with Kreider's development so I guess I have nothing to complain about save that I would have to watch another top NYR player in those colors.

I will try to catch a US development game soon.

Ritchie is the guy I'd want out of most players, but he'll be taken well before our pick if we end up around 20th or so (which would be my guess).

I usually don't go for guys like Ritchie, a little cuckoo, but maybe this kind of player shakes it up a little among the forwards and give us some one who can make space for his linemates. Yeah we will probably pick in the late teens to early twenties so he may not be there, but who knows, his demeanor may put off some teams. Yet some teams might welcome it.

Yeah Scherbak is very athletic and going through a growth spurt, but still has a babyface. If he continues to grow just a bit I don't see his size as an issue, he doesn't seem to shy away from contact.

I have yet to see Honka make a bad pass or one that wasn't tape to tape in the offensive zone. Great decision maker and executes on a dime. Deangelo has those wheels and will mix it up. Not enamored with his lack of size and execution defensively, but he plays the right side and makes plays, he'll be taken early.

I will try to catch a US development game soon.

That team has some nice looking players like Eichel, Milano, Tuch, Larkin, Glover, Dougherty, and my fave 6'4 goalie Edwin Minney ;)
