Maybe this title needs changing now that we're not terrible anymore? :naughty:

I bet we draft a defenseman with our first pick. And there will probably be a sexy forward on the board, too, leading this place to meltdown.

Between DeAngelo and Honka, I could easily see one of them donning a Rangers jersey in round one. Both right-handed, truly dynamic offensive blue-liners. Both undersized, but are very good skaters and character guys.

Josh Jacobs is another guy who could be on the radar. Reminds me of a right-handed John Moore.

I wouldn't hate Honka or DeAngelo in round one if we're drafting late. The way things are looking though, one or both may be attainable in the second round because of their size.

Agreed. To be honest, I really think we should try to get Draisaitl without butchering a trade you know?

Has anything been said about how the draft order will work for playoff teams? The CBA says only:

The League may determine the rules governing the order of selection among Clubs in the Entry Draft, provided that such rules: (i) shall not in any manner affect or 17 ARTICLE 8 8.6-8.6 enlarge in any respect the selecting Club's rights (including, without limitation, rights of retention) in respect of such Player, and (ii) are not inconsistent or contrary in any other respect to any provision of this Agreement, including, without limitation, the procedures set out in Exhibit 4. I

Such informative.

I hope it allows for a team to finish 2nd in the Metro division while still getting the 15th overall pick...

i dont think deangelo lasts til the 2nd round. too much production and skating ability to fall that far.

Okay, so mynhldraft has the Rangers matched up with the 12th best player on ISS rankings, and that player is Brendan Perlini, a 6'3", 195 lbs LW for Niagara...any thoughts?

Perlini has been a very fast riser after getting traded to the Ice Dogs last year. He appears to have taken the next step in his development. Most reports say that he's a perimeter player, though, something I'd be wary of at the next level.

I would rather have Jared McCann though. Great two way player with a nose for the net, and not afraid to go into dirty areas. Smaller than Perlini at 6'0" 180 rather than 6'3" 190 though. He's also been a fast riser.

That same site has us at 11th now taking Virtanen. His tools are drool worthy, but his stats don't show it. I wouldn't be shocked to see him drop out of the first round completely. His development appears to be stalling based on numbers alone. Then again, I need to read up on the prospects board to get opinions of those that watch him on a nightly basis.

Ehlers is still my guy. Reminds me of the way Zach Parise plays the game. Size is an issue, but if he can fill out 15-20 more pounds, 5'11 and 190 is just fine. As of now, he's still well within our reach. Another very fast riser that will continue to rise, as he'll be counted on to be the guy in Halifax with Drouin out with a concussion for the forseeable future.

If the season ended today, the Rangers would be in possession of the #6 pick, presuming the lottery goes in standings order.

There should be a center available in that slot. Hopefully if we're still in this position come season's end, we can win the lottery. :D

Hate me for saying this, but I wouldn't mind tanking for once. Get that top 5 pick and see where we go from there. Trade DZ for a nice pick in the draft and have 2 picks in the 1st round.

This team is in desperate need of some offensive talent. Just don't draft some D who takes 5 years to get up to the level needed :)

starting to get behind this idea myself. Isnt NEXT year the one to tank though?

I want Draisaitl, just not sure if he'll be around when we draft.

I second this sentiment. Could see him being available as late as #13, but he could really go at any point after #5. Would appreciate info on Bennett and Dal Colle. Grazie.

Let's talk Sam Bennett.

Sam Bennett is a Forsberg type of player. High end skill, speed, and run you over type of physicality. He won't hesitate to lay someone out in open ice just because. His speed through the neutral zone with the puck is a pretty sight.

There is no stop to Michael Dal Colle's offensive assault. Consistently shows up. Big bodied winger who has really soft hands, and even better instincts. His one on one ability is the best in the draft - he is relentless until he releases a shot. Can't express how sticky his hands are and how elite his offensive game is.

I don't think the idea to tank should come when the season starts but rather after a poor start. We had a terrible start to the season with injuries and a new coach. Give the coach time to adjust, bring in some young guns who can gain experience (McIlrath, Yogan, Hrivik, Fast, Lindberg) and start building.

Trade a guy like Del Zotto for another 1st round pick (maybe a late one) and take the loss now. The Candiens went through it 2 seasons ago and got Galchenyuk 3rd overall. No harm in that. They went from a high pick in the draft to a contender (of course with the signing of some other players as well) and changed the dynamic of the team.

I agree with some of these posts. We need to trade into the top 5 if we dont end up there. Then make a signing or two if none of the kids are ready. Lets say we trade and draft Drasaitl.

Kreider/Vanek/Heatley/Cammalleri-Stepan-Nash
Drasaitl/Kreider-Roy/Stastny/Thornton/Richards-Zuccarello/Setoguchi/Gionta
Hagelin/Drasaitl-Stajan/Ott/Fiddler/Bolland-Callahan/Vrbata/Downie/Kobasew
Yogan/Winnik/Comeau-Boyle-Dorsett/Yip

Assuming we trade some D for a top 5 pick. I just put a bunch of options i would look into if i was GM.

I think they have enough defenseman in the system right now. What they need is high end offensive players.

Would prefer someone with size and physical play. Skating ability is also in high demand

Your not getting a top five pick by trading guys away. if you trade these players away, it will be to teams making the playoffs or just on the bubble. so at the very best it would be 10-15 in the draft. Only way to get a top five pick is to tank, but even with that, I have no faith that whomever they pick will be an impact player.

I have no faith in this season lately. Any idea where in the draft Michael Dal Colle will fall? Big power center with elite offense, I like.

If we somehow grab another 1st we could also take a run at Nikolaj Ehlers. Kid is electric.

I agree, but a LW top prospect would work too. We have Stepan, Brassard, Moore and Lindberg for the C, can trade Boyle, buy out Richards.

At this stage, all I want is a top 5 pick who can contribute quickly

Get the bona fire #1 center, something this team hasn't had since the first stint of Messier, and hasn't developed since Jean Ratelle.

He may make a push to be #1. depending on how the second half of his season goes. Reinhart is 95 (late b-day) MDC is a 96 and so far this season has been more impressive of the 2. Reinhart is a center (more valuable) and Ekblad is number 2. MDC blossomed with the move from center to the wing. I'm not sure who I would pick.. I'm leaning MDC at 1. but he goes in the Top 3 or 4.
