Since when did I say anything about the color of anyone's skin in either car? There are plenty of Caucasians, Latinos, and Asians out there that are criminals and gang bangers. For me this has nothing to do with race and everything to do with the gang lifestyle so I would appreciate it if you don't put words in my mouth and imply that I'm a racist.
We are literally talking about a specific incident, where the race of the victims were well known.

I was just a kid when that happened. Not even yet really exposed to hip hop or rap at all. 96? Frick. Turned 11 in August that year. It wasn't until Grade 9 when I really started going through a phase of listening to the genre.

Didn't even have internet at that time yet at my house lol.

whoa, so you're about 2 years older than me?

I guess it's because I got into the Otaku, kpop stuff like a decade ago and moved on became global phenomena. I just assumed.
I was always into anime since Sailor Moon, DBZ, Gundam Wing. Those showed on YTV. Then internet at my house became a thing and I just devoured stuff like Neon Genesis, Trigun, Outlaw Star, Cowboy Bebop.. yadda yadda yadda.

I then kept watching certain series but they became fewer an farther between. I took an extended break for like 15 years.. haha.

I'm fully back in now. Jpop I enjoyed but it never grabbed me enough to search out stuff or follow groups. Kpop got introduced to me while I dealt with addiction and homelessness, it helped lift my mood during that -- so much so that I still listen to my Kpop daily.

Neither did I. As soon as I saw it, I texted @Unlimited Chequing because he's the only person I know that's as big of a hip-hop head as I am

I was in the middle of trying to finish up some documentation for the day and was pretty focused on that until I saw the notification pop up on my computer and lost all concentration. My immediate thoughts were "What? Wait, WHAT? No, that's gotta be something else or I'm reading it wrong." I had to look into it immediately.

Yeah I really never expected this day to come. I figure whoever did it would have been long dead by now and just another casualty of gang life.

Needless to say, I was listening to some Tupac on the ride home.

I used to record Rap City and Vibe on Much Music with the VCR every day. Then I used RCA cables to hook teh VCR to the Audio in on my dad's stereo and would make mix tapes from the videos.

Oh man, I used to do the same thing! I even had a mix video tape of all the videos I liked. If I'm not mistaken, Rap City would come on at like 2:30 in the afternoon and then like 11:00 at night or something like that. I'd record the afternoon show, remember the songs that were playing, the order, and even the commercials, and then at 11:00 I would record just the songs I liked at the exact time they started on a separate video cassette so it would be just videos with no commercials of only songs I wanted. I'd be like, "Okay, after the pizza hut commercial, there's the a short black out for like 2 seconds, and that's when you press record. Then skip the next song, and right after the video shows a car driving away, that's the next song to record"

I still get chills when I hear Ice Cube's Wicked cause it was in one version of the intros. It was SO hard to find hip hop living in Canada back in the 90's.

You thought it was hard there... Lethbridge it was impossible.... those CD clubs were the only way I could find anything. Eventually HMV opened here and I was able to order some albums.

My savior was Limewire and Kazaa

And you're right about Wicked... and I also feel that way about so many Cube song... it's not as hype but Hand of the Dead Body might be my favorite.

Napster. Limewire. Kazaa. Kazaa Lite.

Oh my. It's been awhile huh? I don't really remember exactly when Torrent started. That's all I used after the peer to peer stuff. Still utilise it but not nearly as much as before.

I've finally gotten into streaming everything. My shows. My music. Everything, really. Well, nearly. Torrent still comes in handy for the stuff I can't stream.

I remember using IRC by way of mIRC especially. Some of those servers had good leech spots for whatever your passion was.

I stream but I also have an app that rips music from Spotify and Apple Music so I can have a collection should money get too tight again.

Aye, I don't exactly do the same. But close. I rip high quality options whether video or MP3 from YouTube. Always have since I figured out how, lol. I totally get the tight financial stuff. I get it.

Side note: I'm getting pissed right off with Amazon Music. I have enjoyed the catalogue. The app, however, may chase me away sooner than later. Spotify is what I'll try if I jump ship.

Eh. I can go for a couple weeks at a time, sometimes, getting good sleep. Y'know the kind.. easy to actually fall asleep, you stay asleep, or even if you do happen to wake up for the bathroom you fall asleep again instantly.

It's just that that seems to be so random.. when I get those stretches, I mean. Ugh.

White noise on, lights off, feel tired.. not stressed out terribly, and although I'm complaining here right now -- I hadn't had my phone active or anything for quite a bit. Time to try again. (눈‸눈)

I used Amazon Music for a while too, mostly just because they have the $5 plan to use thru Alexa, but I did the same.

It's not let me down yet. I know some ppl complain it's missing albums and such, but at least who I've listened to and also discovered (I always check wiki for discography) it's not been an issue.

Sound quality is great.

That app though...

Yeah... great. I'm now awake and unable to fall back. Fighting it bad for some reason. O.O
Opposite. Cough medicine knocked me out last night. Rest of fam sick. Itchy throat so I took it for precautionary reasons.

Amazon music is brutal and unnecessarily frustrating.

Spotify. But I also have mp3 player and USB sticks of YouTube rips and other downloads via torrents I’ve accumulated over the years.

Tempted to give YouTube premium a try.

Same actually, because it doubles as the no ad option for music vids. I listen more than watch nowadays... but when a song or group really hit me I do love checking out the MVs. I haaaate ads. Lol.

For me, it’s kids yelling about their program being interrupted too. Building a music playlist from YouTube stuff that occasionally isn't on Spotify is intriguing too. Especially good mash ups.

I didn't get into hip hop culture until a few years before pandemic, and only scratched the surface at best, but most of that was due to Nardwuar interviews. Dude is an absolute legend.

My favorite was Nardwuar vs Questlove. Watched it probably a literal dozen+ times (Not metaphorical). It's so soothing and Questlove getting his mind blow over and over and still recovering was awesome :).

I mean I still don't fully get hip hop culture and I was introduced to it when I was 6 or 7 from some guy in Lethbridge named Dragon(?). He had like 7-8 folders of CDs. 6-7 year old me didn't understand the music vs classical music, but calculated that a 24 sleeve X $20 or a 48 X $20 7-8 times was a lot of money. $500-1000 per.
