The singer's manager, Michael Greene, confirmed Meat Loaf died Thursday night. Sources with knowledge tell TMZ ... he was supposed to attend a business dinner earlier this week for a show he's working on -- "I'd Do Anything for Love" -- but the dinner was canceled because he became seriously ill with COVID. Sources tell us that condition quickly became critical.

My company has moved in to the same building as another company summer of 2020 and THAT company had some pretty close ties to Meatloaf. It is a studio space--green screens, white screens, LED screens, that sort of thing. So Meatloaf was doing a documentary of some sort last year. It was supposed to be a regular shoot -- half day or 8 hrs max -- and he bonded with the studio company's owner--both had music/art backgrounds, both loved guns and such, both right wing but not off the deep end, just right of center. He was in the building in one of the studios but I only saw him via screen--but we did say hello (glad we did now!) He insisted I call him Meatloaf. I found out later on that he and Greg basically stayed up all night jawing and Meatloaf's wife finally had to call to find out where he was. I hate that it was a covid death, terrible way to go. RIP Meatloaf, you will be missed.

Paradise by the Dashboard Light is one of my faves. So funny, but unfortunately so true for many.

His real name was orginally Marvin Lee Aday, I think he's always been called Meat though.

That is correct. He was called Meat as a baby and it stuck. He did an interview on the rock station in Milwaukee a number of years ago. He said that he "would have picked a cooler sounding stage name then Meatloaf", but he really didn't have much choice. They played some of the interview back this morning during drive time.

Adz... Greg as in Abaddon?
No, Greg as in the creator of Snowbird.

They wouldn't put Absey and me in the same workplace, that would be disastrous! Ha ha!

I've actually known Greg P longer than I've known Absey! We worked together on the original Preds announcements and also for the opening animations way back then.

First of all: my condolences, Titans fans. I feel your pain.

Second - a little continuation of "what's been up with JW." I'm gonna admit: since the complete shutdown back in March of 2021, I've kinda not been into hockey like I was. It also doesn't help that I live somewhere that hockey is less important than women's college basketball.

That's the irony. I live closer now to an NHL franchise than I ever have in my life, and yet it might as well be a million miles away. I knew this going in, of course, but boy, it's kinda gotten worse. Construction on the main interstates has made in very prohibitive to drive to the other side of the Valley.

I am hopeful about the proposal for a new arena on the west side of Tempe, but the way things go out here I'm basically assuming I'm probably never going to see a Coyotes game at Gila River Arena.

There's also this one-two hour time difference between N'ville and Mesa. That doesn't help. That goes along with a few other things - due to finances, I've canceled satellite radio and gone down to a simple cable package that doesn't include any special channels (including ESPN - amazingly).

That's essentially why I've not really been keeping up on EPGES or the Overall Database since the end of the shortened '21 season. Time hasn't been on my side here in my second career as a school bus driver - yes, we're incredibly short handed, and that's before COVID rears its head.

So. That's about it for me. I do notice that HF still has a rather questionable host, as it's been hit/miss on be being able to log back in.

Welcome back, Joe. You know the rules ... one of us, one of us, one of us... you can't leave.

So January...nice to have it in the past. Mr Adz (along with 3 other office members) had covid first part of the month, then my daughter, son in law and granddaughter had it middle part of the month. No one had a really bad case but it was limiting and uncomfortable, of course.

My mother in law passed away on the 24th (from something different) but had been in and out of the hospital since November. We delayed her funeral a bit so JB and family could recover and GB could get home. So I've been knee deep in family stuff. Just now getting back to normal around our house. So if you were concerned I haven't been "engaging" that's why.

Also I had a birthday. One year closer to medicare, bay bee!

This former Scoutmaster can make coffee if we don't have power...2009 was a lesson in that!
When I first started keeping house, one of the first things I bought was a metal drip coffeepot. Sure, there were Mr. Coffee's back then but my mother had used one for years and it just felt right. When we married, Mr. Adz just hated it so I also got a Mr. Coffee "for looks" and have upgraded over the years. The only time I use the drip pot now is when the pricey electric one breaks or we have power outages (grills heat up water pretty well, if slowly!) He still cringes but he likes to have his coffee so he will tolerate it.

I think the coffee from that old drip pot is better. Maybe it's just nostalgia, though.

Nice!
I like snow. We've been downgraded for snow/ice because the moisture moved through faster than the system. Sadness. I went to the store and everything. I had to get a prescription anyway so might as well get some milk and Krispy Kremes.

Wish it was snow, that's a inch a half of sleet!

We've actually had overnight temps in the thirties here. (That's "below 4C" for you Canuckians.)

COVID has yet to touch the Houk household (knock wood), but it's gettin' reeeeealll tiring of getting multiple e-mails listing yet another COVID case hitting my workplace. For the record, we've had twelve separate COVID notifications since the 1st of the year. That's 2.4 per week.

But no, we can't mandate masks or testing or anything because Ducey holds the purse strings.

Bing search has changed their Microsoft Rewards program and added "Give with Bing" where your searches generate donations for a non-profit of your choice. I've used Bing for a long time now and never got into the rewards until this, at first I tried to thing of a really worthy cause and cycled through the various animal welfare or humanitarian organizations in my head... but then decided to keep it local and think of something I would normally not donate to. That's when I saw G.N.A.S.H. on the list!

So, Bing search rewards give you 5 points per search up to 150 per day. I easily hit this within five minutes just by clicking through the news headlines on the home page, very easy. Then if you click the heart icon at the to, there are bonus tasks, which earn a lot more. Today my tasks were "search for Super Bowl Recipes", "Take this 10 question quiz on albums" and "one question quick poll about NYC". You also earn bonus points for streaks.

Each 10 points is 1 cent. I started in the second week of January and earned 5860 points, mostly just be browsing news headlines like I have been doing for years now anyway and Microsoft donated $5.86 to GNASH. It's not a lot, but it's free charity and if anyone else is motivated to do the same, these small donations could start to add up!
