OT: Off-Topic, again.

On a lighter note, if Jimmy Balls had been successful, the Preds would have had this amazing holiday light display to see on the way to the arena

I'm excited about the holidays too but not that excited!

And on the other subject there is a report that 'tornado alley' is shifting east because of climate changes.

I'd argue it's not shifting, it's always been here. The major difference is this part of the country has gotten more populated and we now have the radar available to see things we probably never even knew was a thing.

Keep in mind most of the ones we see here are still generally pretty small, in the EF1 range with something stronger being more of an exception. Out west EF4 and 5 are fairly common things, we are just lucky that most of them are blowing up cornfields.

Part of the reason this last one was able to make the track it did was because that region is still mostly flat like you see further west. Eastern Arkansas, West Tennessee, and Western Kentucky are all farm regions for a reason. One is because of the Mississippi River and its flood cycles, the other is because it's flat.

That said it wouldn't surprise me at all that the number is rising as things warm a bit. We start seeing 1.5 mile wide ones as a common thing is the day I build a storm cellar in the floor of my house. That was a very common thing to see in Western Arkansas, and Western Missouri when I was a kid.

I'd argue in Middle Tennessee specifically our bigger concern from any climate change would be flooding more so than torndoes.

Was just something I saw on an evening news (NBC or CBS) broadcast. Maybe warming Gulf of Mexico gets more unstable moist air in place?
Probably plays a part, but generally here it still requires a cold front to create enough instability to get them rolling. Out west they more or less form from what we call summer pop up storms here.

Also if I'm remembering right part of what causes them in the west is how the air flows off the Rockies which causes instability in the atmosphere. That's something we won't have.

Yeah, it's always been here. Look up Dixie Alley. Due to the majority being rain-wrapped night time tornadoes it's actually deadlier per square mile than Tornado Alley.

I'm a firm believer in climate change and our need to address it, but it's so embarrassing to see the immediate rush to social media after every single weather event to blame it on climate change.

Climate change isn't a light switch. It's incremental over a long period of time. We could have as little as one additional tornado per year due to climate change and that would be one too many.

Actually it can be a light switch. Based on the ice core samples from Greenland it has shifted drastically in the past. In fact prior to our current 10,000 year inter glacial period it was pretty crazy at times. Even in the current epoch it can swing greatly from sun cycles and volcanic activity.

Oddly enough if you line civilizations surges and retreats they pretty much follow the warming and cooling cycles. Humans have always faired better when it was warmer ( medieval warm period/Renaissance/modern age for example) vs colder periods ( middles ages/ice age).

That doesn't mean being warmer won't come with its own set of problems, it's just not all bad.

We got Hulu a few months back so I've been watching Letterkenny. Just noticed that the Shamrockettes jerseys are Preds jerseys from prior to the 2016-17 season with their own logo of course. Pretty cool to see Martin Erat up around the net again.

Sitting in my car being washed, and started thinking about 303 and Russia. Growing up as a child of the Cold War we were all 'Down Russia! Down the Soviets!' Now we are hoping for Russian players and rooting for Team Russia.

f***ing world.

Nashville hot chicken and snowy weather humbles us all.

In the Air Force that is called forced to stay at a 3-star hotel without room service.

Yeah, he said they dont make them do the survival course because they assume that if they get shot down or crash they will be dead.

Not exactly what a dad wanted to hear, but I guess it is what it is.
