My niece used to work in the Cornell lab. She has a PhD in Biology, specifically Ornithology.
(Now she is involved in grant writing)

The local burger place just upped its' starting wage to $16/hr. I guess that they could not get enough people at $15.

(It was a long time ago, but I used to get $2.65 at Big Boy. The minimum wage was $2.50.)

Ithaca now has a city-wide min. wage.

You wearing # 19 for the Kraken game? Won't have many good opportunities going forward. Even though he did not play in their first game he might well play in Nashville just 'cause.
That's true. I had gotten my other jersey ready thinking he'd be out but I might wear that one instead. It was probably the first one ever sold in Nashville.

Min Wage for tipped positions in TN is still $2.13

Fast food is a god awful job too. The monetary compensation is one thing, but the work environment is something else. Companies that only care about food cost and customers who treat workers like the lowest scum on Earth. There are specific moments from 20+ years ago when I worked at Hardee's that still come back to me, I think that's called trauma. And I made a whopping $5.25 to go through that. Now from my observations, people are even more ruthless these days PLUS the chance that anything you say and do will end up on social media... No thanks, not even for $15

So this site is migrating to a new server? Again? @Viqsi do we all need to look up our emails and passwords and be sure we have them?

It's the long-awaited migration to Xenforo 2, a platform which I happen to know at least you specifically are familar with. ;)

While I've never done a XF1->XF2 migration (heck, I've never even admined XF1), that's the sort of move that does tend to invalidate existing session cookies - so, yeah, I'd make sure you're prepared to log in again once the dust settles. Frankly, it's generally a good idea to keep track of your email and password and keep them saved securely in any case. (I can personally recommend 1password as being pretty awesome.)

Thank you. I just know we lost some posters with each migration.....

I recommend everyone to be using a password manager. Not only does it remove the issue of remembering a bunch of usernames and passwords, it's more secure as well and savvy users can make it even more secure with a couple of tricks.

On that subject, on any platform that offers it, people should be using two-factor authentication. Adds a few seconds to the login process, but much more security.

Happy Fall from the east Tennessee/NC mountains. Taken before sunrise 10/21/21

Photo will not upload, will follow up later

We were just over that way last weekend. Color was awesome at the higher elevations near Graveyard Fields and Grandfather Mountain. Bet it's even better this weekend.

A few more from this week plus a couple of the old Vanderbilt Spring House from a few years ago. I bumped into another photographer while waiting over an hour for the clouds to cooperate for Grandfather Mountain image and found out that I was the subject of a couple of his photos while I was taking this photo. It was 44 ° and windy @ sunrise. This photo was taken before the sun came over the ridge about 7:35 am.

Just heard PK Subban as the guest on NPR's Wait Wait, Don't Tell Me. Dude is still hilarious.
