Welp, now we are going to see if Adams is an actual NHL GM or not.

He just had a deal he's probably been working on since the trade deadline get blown up by a NTC, the details got leaked on twitter. Given everything he's said (not wanting to go beyond two years, wanting to get paid to take on salary, etc), it sounds like he basically thought he had this deal in his back pocket. One of the other available goalies just got snapped up for low picks and the options are narrowing.

if he wasn't a real gm he wouldn't have been able to negotiate that excellent deal in the first place.

I don't think a competent organization fires a coach so they can appease a cap dump
I’d do it if Jiricek was on the board at 7.

that’s what im appeasing

I just hope the goalie musics chairs end with Murray miserable and riding a bus in Belleville on his way to out of the league.

ive already accepted Adams is going to pick a broken stool to sit on

I'm really sad right now.

BREAKING unfolding: The deal between Ottawa and Buffalo would have included the Sens retaining salary and Buffalo flipping the 16th pick for the 7th. -Darren Dreger

BREAKING: The Sens and the Sabres were deep in trade talks for Matt Murray to go to Buffalo, but the player did not waive them off his 10-team no-trade list, per Elliotte Friedman.

Darren Dreger adds Buffalo would have gotten an extra asset to take on his contract in the deal, had it gone through

I get this overwhelming feeling that we will be looking back at the downfall of the Adams era being this short term long term goalie bullshit. As if it’s somehow worse to have a goalie develop into a star but also still have a good goalie under contract Than to have no goalie for years of developing players

Your ability to create fiction in your own brain is a talent.

Sigh. Let's consider what Adams had said previously.

1. He wouldn't want to go beyond 2 years for a goalie.

2 years is a weird number to say. You are locked out of nearly all UFAs with a self imposed two year term limit.

Let's look at the list of goalies who are UFA's in 2024.

So, on that list, he's either referring to Murray or Mrazek. Mrazek was terrible last year, while Murray was average.

he also spoke of being in the process of a deal about taking on salary.

So, a deal that checks three pretty distinctive boxes (a goalie, with two years left on their deal, where Buffalo got paid to take on salary) falls through, and I'm 'creating fiction' for saying Adams had been working on the deal for awhile and likely felt like he had it in his back pocket?

It's connecting some pretty obvious dots, not crafting some narrative fiction.

if he wasn't a real gm he wouldn't have been able to negotiate that excellent deal in the first place.

My thought would be a good GM would have gotten the status of the NTC early on rather than get into deep talks and have it blow up in their face, rather publicly, like Adams has. All that being said, we don't know all the details. Shit happens, the NTC is out of his control, it's how he navigates now that his first option is off the table that is important now

Adams said there having immigration issues with a couple prospects, I'm guess there Rus.

said it was TP
Hopefully it’s Pegula calling to tell him to go ahead on his next deal to get an amazing return for taking on money

I wouldn't fire Bales just because of this trade, it's wrong and that's how the culture starts to rot. It's also not certain that Murray decline to play for Buffalo because of Bales.

That's sort of his default look but that deal would've been an interesting draft win while filling his goaltending vacancy. He's gone from likely the biggest apparent trade win of his career to being back to square one again.

I'm not sure that beats the Eichel trade but it would have been something.

It wouldn’t have beaten the Eichel trade imo but the reaction to the trade would have been near universal praise right away as opposed to people slowly coming around
