Schwarber's got massive career platoon splits. 860 career OPS vs Righties vs 650 against Lefties. And we can use a lefty bat. Can be a nice extra piece for something like $8m for 1 year. I could see teams trying to emulate the Rays approach from last year giving this guy some attention.

I think it could be huge for this team if Vladdy keeps putting in the work and sticks at 3B for even the next 2-3 years. It allows you to play Tellez/Schwarber at 1B and DH and gets those LH bats into a RH heavy lineup against RHP. And of course Schwarber may just be a short-term thing.

If people think Groshans and Martin compete for 3B/CF in 2+ years, then make them push Vladdy back to 1st and in 3 years and push the hypothetical Springer to RF.

And when this team is a perennial contender, you can find offense first guys that can only DH.

The only way I consider Schwarber is in a platoon role and that would only be if we sign someone like Springer to man CF and one of Gurriel or Grichuk are dealt to fill other spots. That being said if we are looking for some pop from the left side of the plate I would rather take my chances with Rosario released by the Twins and now a free agent. His splits are more encouraging the Schwarber and is more athletic. He has power and speed, better defensively.

Eddie's splits are less pronounced than Schwarber's (820/710)- he's more of an everyday outfielder type rather than a potential specialist. Interestingly, Fangraphs projects him as a 1.5 fwar player next year while Schwarber projects as a 2.1.

Our other targets are probably contingent on signing Springer. If we sign Springer, I don't think we will be able to trade Grichuk. So, doubt Rosario would come to be the 5th OFer here nor would we want him to.

I get the feeling if Atkins can improve the roster enough he will just get rid of Fisher for the roster spot too.

Damn from Springer, Bauer, LeMathieu and others to now being excited to potentially pick up flier type players.

Y’all ready for disappointment yet?

I wouldnt call players like Schwarber or Rosario flier type players. They are players that if acquired give you the flexibility to add through trade what you couldnt through free agency cause they are better players then whom they are replacing with the players they are replacing still having value in trade.

No, we are talking about big names and smaller ones.

In a perfect world, we sign Springer, add another decent outfielder (Scwarber or Na), add someone who can play SS (Lindor, Kim, Segura), and then we sign one of Bauer or Realmuto (or both) where Realmuto would mean a young catcher gets traded for a quality starter.

If you sign Springer and cannot trade Grichuk that isnt the end of the world. An outfield and DH rotation of Springer/Hernandez/Gurriel/Grichuk isnt all that bad. You place Tellez at first base everyday and Guerrero at 3rd. Leave Bichette at SS and leave Biggio at 2B.

I have always said from the beginning of all of this that the Jays have to go out and sign Springer and Realmuto in free agency as the big fish. Everything else will fall into place. You sign those 2 players you have instantly improved you everyday lineup. Not to mention that you have now a young everyday catcher in Jansen to be added to a deal along with prospects to get a bonafide starter. Snell anyone? Tampa wants catching. Carrasco anyone? Cleveland needs catching.

Yeah, you would almost think the team needs to make multiple additions and they won't all be huge or something. But that can't be it...

Chicago could have offered him 5.6 million and kept him through to arbitration, so 5-8 prob isn't a terrible guess

Will you stop doing this every 2nd day? Where are you hearing filer type players?

Rosenthal: Blue Jays likely to overpay for prized free agent | Tim & Sid

3:03 | December 4, 2020

Ken Rosenthal expects the Blue Jays to sign one or more big named free agents, but will likely pay a premium for players like George Springer and JT Realmuto.

Atkins: Blue Jays speak with Springer's agency 'at least once a week' - Sportsnet.ca

The Toronto Blue Jays are seemingly attached to every big name on the free-agent market, from George Springer to Jake Odorizzi to Michael Brantley, and now we might know why.

According to Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins, the team speaks with Excel Sports Management -- the group that represents those three players, as well as Masahiro Tanaka, Taijuan Walker, Didi Gregorius and others -- "at least once a week."

"Like any other agency that's representing, they have several free agents," Atkins said, staying vague, when asked how often he speaks to Springer's agency during an interview on Tim and Sid Thursday. "(Excel) have a pretty good group of free agents this year so we've had pretty consistent contact with that group."

While any of those players would be a significant upgrade for the Jays, the team does have familiarity with one of them, Walker, who was acquired by Toronto at the trade deadline and pitched well down the stretch as the team secured a playoff spot.

Walker told Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith in October that he would be open to a reunion. But when asked about that relationship Thursday, Atkins declined to tip his hand on any of the pitchers on the open market.

"Taijuan's a free agent; there are many free agent pitchers that we're talking to and will continue to," Atkins said. "Anyone of that calibre, we certainly want to understand where they are, what their interest level might be with us. We'll continue to canvas that market for sure."

With the Mets closing in on McCann, I wonder if the Jays target Realmuto. Mets and the Jays were the most frequent names after Realmuto and if the Mets are out, that’s a big story.

If we sign Realmuto + Springer, I can see us flipping Jansen + Teo/Gurriel for a good starter with control.

Would be a good idea if that’s how it worked out. Though I’m not entirely crazy about taking 2 cost controlled position and turning it into high priced players and potentially selling low on Jansen. But if it turns into a championship, I could careless.

In the end the Jays don’t make moves to appease me.

I’d rather have Rowdy as the lefty bat who can hit both lefties and righties for a fraction of the price, and sign an impact OF like Springer or Brantley.

I’d be really happy with Realmuto, Brantley and Walker. I think I’d prefer Brantley over Springer as he’s a more pure hitter and wouldn’t need a huge commitment. I guess the Jays would still have a big hole at CF unless Martin is the future solution there.
