Our problem isn't Happ as the 5th guy, it's depth. We have some great pitching prospects but they aren't ready.

This.

We hay two guys at the top of the rotation in Morrow and Johnson that are pretty injury prone. If one or both of them goes down, we're in trouble. Getting another starter for the back of the rotation, a Niese or Jackson type would give us 5 quality starters, then guys like Happ, Cecil and likely Villaneuva in the background in case one of the starters goes down.

And this rotation would be the best one in our divisiion, adding it to a strong Bullpen and a good batting order and were looking pretty good:

Johnson-Morrow-Beurhle-Romero-Niese/Jackson

Also, we need that starting depth a lot more then Swishers bat IMO.

These two are officially free agents. With Hech gone, we could use a quality prospect at SS/2B, I wonder if AA would be willing to take a run at him.

Probably not, they will command a good amount of money and I don't think Jays will be spending too much on IFA signings (they will spend up to 2.9M budget though). If anything, they will be focusing that money on major league roster. I don't really think we need a SS either with Reyes in place (not that it hurts to have a good SS prospect; could always move him to 2B as well) but right now, I don't think it makes much sense for Jays to spending too much money on IFA when they need that money towards major league roster (these guys will be looking upwards of at least 10M+).

If we can sign Mike Adams, our bullpen is crazy stacked. What would the Braves offer for Bonifacio, assuming they're still interested? Would they be willing to deal Freeman?

I want Adams pretty bad. We'd have a few guys who could potentially be our closer and be really good at it.

No chance in hell.

Despite the interest, Bonifacio hasn't proved himself beyond being one of the best "super-subs" in the league. I think he'll be a good everyday player, but you're not going to get a young, controllable, proven corner infielder who just put up 20+ hrs and 100rbis.

#bluejays #angels, 2 biggest under-the-radar clubs in mlb, are among teams thought interested in dickey. Trade buzz up.

I didn't mean Bonifacio alone, of course we'd have to add.

Gotta land dickey, I keep thinking of having him in the lineup and having him possibly pitching the first game of a series and then having to face Johnson or morrow haha. Gotta be tough to adjust to that.

I feel like there's already a deal struck between the Angels and Mets for Dickey involving Bourjos+, but Mets are trying to work a deal out with AA for Gose+/JPA+.

I'd rather us be in on Niese then Dickey. They'll want to much back for a guy that is about to hit 40, even if he is just coming of a CY.

I wonder if Sierra built up any trade value from his season last year where a team may see value in him. Maybe AA is trying to angle JPA and Sierra as the package. But I think your right that if the Mets think they can get Gose they'd wait it out preferring him over Bourjos.

I'd prefer Niese. Not so much because of their current ages but for long term reasons. I also think Niese is about to really break out.

Talked to at least half-dozen execs today, all think #Mets will trade Dickey. All cautioned no inside info, but many said watch #Bluejays

I do wonder just how much we're in on Dickey.

Yea I don't blame him if he doesnt just wanted to see if theyd take a shot.

Isn't the 2.9 m budget already done with the signings we made in July?

Any trade involving Dickey will sting some people here, but I fully believe he has the ability to be a front of the rotation starter in Toronto for the next 3 years.

could a large trade with the Mets be worked around these pieces and what would we have to add? Kind of based off of the proposal woodman put together a little while back

To Mets
Buerhle
Gose
Jpa
Lind

To Jays
Dickey
Niese
Davis.

I know I'm getting greedy here just wondering how much further we'd have to go to potentially address every need we have.

the 2.9 million budget doesn't apply if you're 23 or older, i'm pretty sure. Thats why Diaz likely won't be signed by a team until january when he turns 23

Yea well he would be controllable for longer on a much better contract. He'd fit with the core of the team we have going.

I wonder if they would be interested in JPA + Sierra + Mcguire for Niese then Bourjos + for Dickey to LA.

Yes with all of the hard throwers we have i think he would be perfect!

Not a big fan of Davis, but at least he has power. The deal seems pretty fair from my (slightly bias I suppose) view but we'd probably have to eat some of Buehrle's salary.

Yea I know.

Theyve already spent it to Im pretty sure.

I was more asking if hed fork up the cash for one of those guys.

I'd rather trade for someone cheaper than Dickey, like Holland or sign a guy like Edwin Jackson. But, if we do get him for cheap I'll be pretty pumped. I guess I kinda have mixed feeling based on his age and all.
