If you listen to this board every player on other teams is overrated. I don't buy this narrative.
Bouchard is treated like he’s Hughes or Makar. Difference between those guys is they can actually play defense. Being stapled to Mcdavid makes his offense surge. Bouchard isn’t a great skater and makes some very questionable decisions. Bouchard would be an Ekblad in his prime on our team at best.

Almost any offensively talented defenseman who plays that much against top competition will make questionable decisions sometimes. Bouchard has tarnished reputation because of media scapegoating, defensive system flops, lack of goaltending help, but his defensive metrics improved drastically this season, including playoffs.

The biggest difference between him and Hughes/Makar is skating, the latter two are much more dynamic and can easily dangle around their opponents at the blue line, Bouchard is not, so the best strategy is agressively challenge him and try to block the shot lane. However, 3 other teams
couldn't contain him.

I’m absolutely okay seeing EDM give him $12M for 8 years. It would be a really good thing. Maybe we could even help Evan out by connecting him with Yandle, they’re kind of similar style.

More EDM summary, to add to their propensity for uneven spending, their offseason summary basically is:

From EDM: Ceci (D), Broberg (D), Holloway (F)

To EDM: Emberson (D), Fischer (D), Podkolzin (F), and cap space $

And the media keep saying how much better EDM is now. I guess Bouch will have to learn to play D after all these years.

Skinner was a good add to their 2nd line

Just needs a healthy season, and a stay at home partner.

Him and Kulikov will be fine as #5 and #6 IMO

Could also see him sheltered with Mikko at 5v5 and win a top PP-spot…

I like the idea of a Kulikov - Schmidt pairing… Both play the right-side confidently and they can shut it down and move it !

Can’t argue how huge Kulikov’s deal was to open free-agency… This team needed that kind of veteran presence and commitment, couldn’t happen to a nicer guy and a cool, devoted Panthers since his early days !

As for Boqvist, maybe smarter to have get his confidence and health back on the bottom-pair like you said.

We will have to wait for training-camp to see where all those dominoes fall…

Uvis, Benning and others could also be in the mix… There are two spots on D if we go 7 deep !

Can’t wait to see those guys go back at it !! :P

I also think this is the way they will go, at least initially, with Mikko/Boqvist as the 2nd parring. If that doesn't work out and they feel they need to
shelter Boqvist even more, then they move him down.

Of course this is all contingent on him staying, well, you know. Hopefully guys like Balinskis and Bjornfot have/will show enough in camp to give
some confidence if the "unmentionable" occurs.

Aside from a few questionable decisions in the regular season, Kuli was pretty damn solid the whole season. I don’t remember one bad play in the playoffs either. And for being on the back nine of his career, he looks in incredible shape. Good to have him back for a few.

Dmitry is puuuuuuuuurfect !

Bottom-pairing guy, skates well, moves well, great motor, great physicality, kinda black-hole offensively but who cares, he moves the puck well enough out of the zone…

Been there, done that kinda guy… Highly-touted first-rounder who came in as a teenager in the league… Had to reinvent himself after not delivering on the hype, went around the NHL and always found a role… Until believing it was time to come HOME, and man, what a decision !

A winner in SoFla, perfect veteran presence and future job in the organization… Put him with McCabe on development-team !

Signing long-term, 4 years at 1.15M, is a great gift from Kuli… Pretty sure he will play it out too, even if in his last year he will be 37…

Except for the giveaway in the 5-1 loss to the Bruins… :naughty:
