This one was good too.

Benny getting upset that the coaching staff even brought up McDavid being open to end the game is pretty insightful.

Plus everyone being concerned about flights and 130+ family members being on said flights explains a lot

I'm not sure how anyone can pencil Boqvist in as a regular when he hasn't even been able to establish himself as an nhler. Let alone run PP1 on a SC winning team. I would assume it's Ekblad again.
Lets be honest we won a cup in spite of our PP1
Boqvist may suck at defense but the guy can make plays and score which sounds like a good montour replacement there

The last pure PP specialist we had was Yandle. Gladly stay away from that.

Montour's defensive work is underrated. His skating ability was great, good hitter, but the occasional blunders and Bad positioning.
I fail to see that much similarity to Boqvist.

Nevertheless, he deserves a shot. I believe though that we see more of Balinskis and even Benning instead of Boqvist

mainly meant his offensive side could help replace the loss of montour, wasnt knocking on montys defense overall

i also dont see zito giving out a yandle contract to him

Boqvist 's poor defense is a reality though. There's no comparison to Montour. Monty was a solid, NHL ready player at 23. Boqvist is still struggling to be relied upon at ES at 24.

Pretty sure Boqvist has better analytics joining us than when we acquired Montour....by a pretty considerable margin too.

Montour was a 1% wasn't he? At age 24? Lol

Yeah, playing on and being misused by Buffalo. Was Boqvist ever playing top pair minutes? Monty also looked way better when he was on Anaheim.

Yeah I don't see the comparisons to Monty really. Monty was a minute muncher and durable, played physical. Great skater and motor and compete. I've heard none of that of Boqvist. That said, it's a wild card signing, who knows if he can suddenly take off in Florida like so many others. But IMO it's quite a bit more likely that he bombs out and doesn't even make the cut.

Guys…. I would put some more trust by now that Zito knows what he’s doing.

Last season with Monty and Ek out we were supposed to suck on D, few here were trusting that OEL and Kulikov and Mikkola would get it done.

I think Boquist will have a breakout season.

Exactly. Zito has to be given the benefit of the doubt. The guy just gets almost every move right and if they can’t cut it then you can be sure he will improve this team at the trade deadline.

Boqvist was a last minute, league minimum signing for a year. He can easily be dumped to the Ahl if it doesn't work out. I don't have any problem with the signing, there's almost zero risk involved. I'm personally just not expecting much, call me negative Nancy if you like lol.

Monty and Boqvist different players and styles, but both offense oriented and can move the puck.

Monty I thought was kinda meh on the power play, was never that impressed, but he did fine. I appreciated Monty more for his skating, puck moving, compete, fitness, and attitude. Guy never backed down from anyone and could be relied on to take big minutes. Monty is ideally a mid-pair guy, but I think the key for him is as the game goes on, he's still got his motor while other guys start to get tired so he can play more important minutes down the stretch.

Boqvist, sounds more like your typical offensive dman that moves the puck and can work the power play if he reaches potential, but he's more of a positioning, stick-checking type dman.

Monty's personality and feistiness will be the hardest to replace IMO and hoping that doesn't hurt us too much. We lost Gudas last season and Monty this season, so that's a lot of the compete and attitude gone from the defense. Theoretically Mikko is the Gudas replacement and Mikko I think has been the better player, but obviously not as nasty as Gudas. Boqvist, maybe he can fill the offensive role played by Monty, but he's not likely to replace the attitude.

I'm hopeful. Both Boqvists picked Florida for a reason and I'm hoping they come in with a good attitude to put it back on track for their careers. I'm guessing Adam had a lot of other options available, probably lots of other teams would've liked a free option on a cost-controlled, right-handed, and young puck-moving dman with top-4 potential.
