That's great value for Olson. Younger and cheaper and arguably better than Freeman.

It has to be that elusive 6th year that's the sticking point for everyone else.

Dodgers already lost one bigger name player to not giving out a 6th year in the last few years (Grenike), the Yankees are apparently just too cheap and the Jays might not want to commit to it due to fears of decline.

Tampa swooping in to give him the 6th year while saving some money by doing so actually makes a lot of sense.

Maybe the lockout knocked a bit of sense into them and they're investing their revenue share earnings into their on-field product. Doubt it but we'll see!

My other crackpot theory is Rays ownership is trying to nudge a stadium deal along so they're going to pretend to give a shit about the team for a bit to make it seem like it would be worthwhile.

The Marlins did this in 2011 then proceeded to sell all their big contracts to the Jays a year later.
