Couple of thoughts

1) if Yankees trade Voit and someone else who makes above minimum, that will get them below CBT

2) Right now, all 3 players acquired slot in as starters.

Twins are pushing for Story.

So they might have traded Garver, JD and Rortvedt for Story, Urshela and Sanchez

I do not get the point in trading Berrios....and then going for it the next year. Cause their rotation is still absolutely awful lol
Berrios told them that he was not re-signing under any conditions.

Also, I dont think they are all-in. The Gray deal was perplexing unless they know something about their prospect that we dont.

Garver to Sanchez is a value downgrade but easier to justify giving the starters job to their top C prospect.

Story should be better than JD, plays SS rather than 3B and should have less decline (age).

Urshela is a backup in a perfect world (unless he regains form, then this trade gets ugly for the Yankees)

Also, it wouldn't shock me if one or both players isnt eligible to play in Toronto.

Edit: 9 games in Toronto for NYY vs 3 for MIN

I don't think it is them going all in....but it does seem to be kind of directionless which is an issue.

We see 1st rounder and freak, but Fangraphs had Petty as their 14th best prospect (40+).

They got a prospect who might slot into the 30s on their list plus Gray. (Keep in mind that Petty is seen as a reliever due to mechanics and that he throws 102 with a two pitch arsenal.

I like the JD deal to Yankees from a Jays perspective. In my eyes the Yanks take a step back in that deal. JD is older and injury prone. The fact they take on all of JD's contract means they are out of the running for players like Freeman and others that would have made them a threat!!!

I am not afraid of their rotation, and we stack up well against their day-to-day lineup. Should be an interesting season but I call the Yanks being sellers at trade deadline with TB and Jays battling all season for top spot in division.

They got a C and SS that are good at D and a 3B who can hit (if he stays healthy). None of the 3 do both.

Yusei Kikuchi to the San Francisco Giants – Three years, $65 million
Losing Kevin Gausman is a severe hit to San Francisco’s rotation, and crossing fingers to hope that Alex Cobb throws 160 innings is not a suitable follow-up plan. I’m on record now for believing that Logan Webb is now a legitimate ace-type, but the team’s rotation is short at least one starter — possibly more than that due to the injury histories of Cobb and Alex Wood, but certainly one major addition should be in the cards. The pickings are rather thin, but I’m a fan of San Francisco going after former Mariner Kikuchi; projecting him in each park, he gets the best WAR projection of any of the 30 teams with the Giants. (His weakness is the occasional crushable mistake, and Oracle Park is a good landing place for that type of pitcher.)

ZiPS Projection – Yusei Kikuchi

It’s not generally appreciated, but Kikuchi has made great strides punching out batters in recent years, as his plate discipline stats and velocity have both improved since his major league debut. The hardest-throwing lefties who tossed 100 innings in 2021 were Shane McClanahan, Carlos Rodón, Blake Snell, and… Yusei Kikuchi. ZiPS even thinks that, based on his swinging-strike rate and first-strike percentage, there’s still reasonable upside left in his strikeout and walk rates.

Dan Szymborski (an O’s fan) wrote this article in February. Safe to say he thinks the Jays got a bargain when he projected $65M and the Jays got Kikuchi for $36M.

They may be out on Freeman specifically because of the money but in terms of players *like* Freeman, I still think they're going to be the frontrunners for Matt Olson.

If Freeman signs elsewhere other than the Braves I expect the Braves to be front runners for Olson. I can see the Yanks bringing back someone like Rizzo.

Speaking of Rizzo, would the Jays be interested in him and moving Vladdy to 3B if all else fails? He's a lefty bat and can play solid 1B. Just a thought.

I personally would want to exhaust all other options before Rizzo but if all else fails why not?

Pretty sure Rizzo is anti vax so that would immediately be a no go for the Jays.

[Davidi] Jays notes

"His addition is no means the end... they are looking to add a leverage arm and there's not neccesairly looking at the middle market, they're even considering upper market options such as Kenley Jansen. Doesn't mean it's going to happen but this is the type of move they're looking at. We know they would also like add an infielder. He's one of many infield options (Villar) they're looking at, many balls in the air.
Vlad has continued to get into work at 3rd base to stay athletic, arm strength etc, if they need an inning for him at 3rd in a scenario they have that option in their back pocket.
