This thread is really good. I was thinking something similar but it's far better than what I would write.

Remember that not all numbers are created equal. The Yankees are 2.4WAR better than the Rays at pitching (despite the same average rating between starters and relievers). The Jays at 13 are 1.4WAR behind TB.

Putting this in raw numbers, NY is currently 1, followed by SD, Atlanta and Toronto.

Also, their projection for Romano makes no sense.

I think the biggest point Chris Black raised was the WAR% for each top projected contributor. Both the Jays and the Rays have a substantial amount of depth as seen by their projected WAR leaders (Chapman, Franco) only accounting for ~9-10% of their team's WAR total. With Judge accounting for ~14%, if he goes down the Yanks are in trouble. We already saw the Rays pull off 86 wins last year sans Franco/Lowe for half the season (and no Glasnow).

RP projections always seem iffy but Romano also didn't have great underlying metrics last year (bottom percentiles in EV and hard hit %). Clay Holmes was kinda in the same pool which may be why he isn't projected very high either. I know those aren't baked into the projections but a combo of his LOB%, FIP, and SIERA over the last few years probably did Romano in.

Sooo can Rogers start raising our rates so we can afford Sasaki? I am okay with it. That kid is the truth.

Can only hope we have won a World Series by then and we are an attractive option with our competitive window still very much open... believe he is eligible to come across in 2027? He is going to demand likely a record offer.

He is eligible whenever they post him. I don't expect him to come as a free agent.

True they could post him early but I don't expect that soon, hes only 21. I am curious what you mean by not expecting to come as a free agent? Once posted its open to all teams to make an offer is it not?

His team gets nothing if they wait for him to hit free agency. They get money if he is posted.

He is still a couple of years away from posting (and will likely trigger Japan wanting to change the posting rules).

I mean they get to actually have the player? That's a pretty big deal for Japan.
