Tiedemann is can't miss. He'll be ready mid season. Innings limit and current roster construction will prevent it.

Tiedemann was unbelievable today. Great first outing. The TV game was pretty bland outside of that. Bassitt meh, Garcia was fine. Bass good. Didn't see any other the other game but decent line from Berrios, good lines from Zulueta and Robberse. Varsho starting a little bit cold is the opposite of exciting but it's early. Nothing from Barger or Orelvis today but Britton going 2 for 2 with a HR and a triple is fun.

Seems reasonable for the most part. I'm still not really sure how Bonilla gets more money than Barriera(despite different systems of acqusition) and is 17 while Barriera is 2. Britton not in the top 30 is surprising.

2 year gap in development is pretty huge, and Barriera is easier to scout and report on. Bonilla might rise quickly into the top 10 but he’ll likely spend the year in the DSL/CPX while Barriera will be in A ball.

Britton should be in there. Palmegiani should also be quite a bit higher.

Yeah there's for sure more variation on IFA guys because of the age, but if they were going to be inherently worse because of age they'd get less money wouldn't they? I guess the artificial limits put on both markets mean money won't line up perfectly, but that much of a gap surprises me. Basically if the draft market has twice as many good players than the IFA market but teams could spend 5 million on each the same player in the IFA market would get more than in the draft market because teams will still spend to the limit but have lesser competition for that money. Even factoring that in something like 2 v 8 makes more sense in my head rather than 2 and 17.

There’s an argument to be made that Barriera (and Toman) may not be that high either but evaluators often place recently drafted prospects near the top due to pedigree/stock. The money in IFA is so heavily concentrated to the top 30-50 prospects that it seems like orgs typically have their sights set on one of the top guys, commit majority of their pool, and then fill out with sub 200k signings

Barriera's money was limited by the system from which he was taken. He could get overslot money, but there is a very finite amount that he could have been paid (keep in mind that the draft requires signing as many guys as possible or you lose some of the pool).

For Bonilla, the Jays could theoretically throw more than the entire IFA pool at him with limited consequences.

What if I were to tell you that Barriera was undervalued at the draft for the similar reasons as Ricky? :)

Neither one pitched in pro ball after being drafted. Scouts are a little more inclined to believe that a kid can throw 97 when there is real data to support it (such as another kid's 97 after being in Dunedin post-draft showing up in-game), and the Jays likely brought Barriera to Dunedin to refine his mechanics so that he is following that same path.

If the kids truly embrace spending time during the offseason in Dunedin and can hang out with Vladdy and Bo and the other regulars, our developmental system is suddenly going to take off.

Also, if anyone is wondering why they suggested that no shifting could suddenly benefit Bo, keep in mind that all of the practice he did on his D was surrounding playing a defensive role that he didn't really play. Put him back in his traditional position (when you have arguably the rangiest infield in baseball, you probably shouldn't also be shifting the most in baseball in the first place) and we'll see how he adapts getting to play in his comfort zone.

They did bring him to the complex for sessions, and due to proximity to his hometown I wouldn't be surprised if he spent the winter training there too. I'm not saying Barriera doesn't have talent, but based on ceiling and risk, perhaps a guy like Zulu should be a higher rated prospect. Maybe even a Juenger or Robberse. I just think most recently drafted 1st round prospects tend to carry a lot of helium and are typically dumped into top 5 territory of farm systems. We know HS pitching prospects are the highest risk in terms of development, and it's even more challenging when a guy shuts himself down during his senior year to avoid injury and hampering his stock.

Same goes for Toman who is a bat first prospect who likely doesn't stick at SS. Should he really be placed ahead of Gabriel Martinez? GMart hit 11 home runs in the FSL and probably did enough in Vancouver to warrant a AA challenge in the very near future.
