Well that’s too bad but at least that should get the market going. Glad he didn’t hold out for a long time messing things up.

Great for both parties.

Setting aside the Yankees being a division rival, I'd be beyond choked to lose my superstar player simply over money. Whether the Yankees overpaid or not, they had to get it done. And good on them for doing so.

I would have been really happy with the Heaney or Quintana contracts for the Jays. I would also be happy bringing Stripling back if he's somewhere in that range.

The Walker and Taillon ones, on the other hand... yikes.

The Heaney one is terrifying to me. He gets paid whether he is good or not, but he gets Walker/Taillon money if he's good and can opt out.

That is probably what the Jays are looking at doing, either with him or maybe Syndergaard/Manaea.

Unless they have a pitcher trade lined up, but it is looking more likely that they will need to use their bullets on an OFer, unless they can get Nimmo or are willing to settle on either a lesser option or a corner OFer.

There's a lot more risk involved because of the short track record, obviously, but I like the upside play on a guy with that kind of K/BB rates. I'll take that risk over giving four years and $70 million to a guy like Walker or Taillon who you know is just a mediocre starter, especially when they have their own risk with the extensive injury histories.

But the risk is that you could be on the hook for 2-3 years at 12.5 or you could get one year and he bails.

Well the second part doesn't bother me. If he's good enough to opt out, then you got one really good year for relatively cheap and you give him the QO.

The first part is the actually risk, but, like I said, I think that's a relatively low risk given the upside.

Catcher trade coming?

I figured between the Cards, Astros, and D-Backs we would see one get Contreras, one get murphy, and the other make a deal with Jays. The D-Backs still seem like a really good trade fit for the Jays.

Catcher trade coming?

This isn’t great for us, right?

The Cards and DBacks seemed to be the best trade partners for the Jays. With Murphy still out there, I hope we’re able to maximize our assets and find a deal that brings back a CF or starter.

I think Atkins is probably starting to sweat a little. Usually they get one of their targets by now.

I was never really big on him anyway, all his numbers are trending in the wrong direction for a couple of years now.

I guess the unfortunate reality of having your main asset to move in a trade is you have to wait for the Free Agent market to dry up before teams pivot to you. It would not be ideal if Contreras went to one of the Cards/Diamondbacks and Murphy the other.
