I understand Robert Herjavec was on Overdrive yesterday. Didn’t get a chance to listen. Did he address why he didn’t let people know he was the one that was on the plane?

There would be very few things that would piss me off this offseason. Bringing back Matt Chapman would be one of them.

I can't sit through another year of him staring at middle middle fastballs to start an AB and then K'ing on an up and in fastball. I'd rather 80 year old Justin Turner than give him way too much money for way too long.

As for Yamamoto, i wouldn't hate the signing as i'm bullish on him but i do seriously wonder if there's any point to it? Rotation is already strong and Yamamoto at that point feels more like a luxury good. I would assume at that point you would pack up Manoah and Tiedemann to try and make a trade for a legit bat?
What about this Sasaki kid, any chance they get posted?

I think there was another Korean kid as well?
Sasaki sounds like more likely to get posted next year but he will definitely be coming to MLB before he's 25.

Basically said his phone was off during the flight/wasn't aware
Phone was "off"

Steve, do you have a degree in economics? I think you might need one for this chat!

Ha, yeah I expect lots of Ohtani questions.

In fact, I'll just provide some quick thoughts up top that I'll probably have to point back to often

I don't really understand all the hand-wringing over the whole structure. I think people are mad because it has "super team" vibes, but this isn't new. Max Scherzer's $210MM deal with the Nationals, for one prominent example, is still being paid out. It was a "seven" year contract spanning 2015-21, but it's being paid out through 2028. Half of the entire guarantee was deferred, including all $35MM of Scherzer's salary in 2019, when Washington won the World Seris.

We see contracts every single year that game the CBT to varying extents. The Padres drew up a convoluted four-year deal for Michael Wacha with a bunch of $6MM player options that he was never going to exercise, just to keep themselves below tier three of the CBT

FYI

The lesson is don’t get played.
I mean, for one thing, I don't buy the idea that because people thought he would end up in LA and he ended up in LA, that means there was never a chance he would end up elsewhere.

And for another... how did the Jays get played? If anything, the team that upped their offer at the last minute out of fear that he was going to sign somewhere else is the one that got played. The Jays are in the same spot today as they would be if they had never attempted to sign Ohtani.

Seth Lugo 3 yrs $45M to KC.

I can’t remember them ever spending so big on a FA. Just goes to show the imbalance in MLB if Lugo is your franchise big splash.

Does residence really count for this contract, as it is being paid from a company registered in LA?
I really want to know.

The Royals hype how they have money and are willing spend by giving it to...Seth Lugo?

Okaaaaaay. And this does what for the Royals exactly?

I wonder if this puts us as the favourite to sign Bellinger? The talking heads on MLB tv seemed to think it would be between us and the Giants. Maybe this doesn’t preclude them, but they aren’t a team that you’d think would hand out two huge contracts to a CF in the same offseason.
