True, but Friedman's report stated that Yzerman would incentivize moving Malone by offering a pick. Obviously trying to ascertain what kind of pick it will be. :)

From my previous convos with you guys, the Bolts need a physical stay-at-home defenseman, and Klesla fits that bill (and can also be effective on the right despite being an LHD). Not exactly the most durable guy (though he's a little better in that regard than Malone over the past few years), but Klesla is still very reliable on the PK and in shutdown situations, while also having underrated offensive acumen.

EDIT: Bolts don't even have a 3rd or a 4th this year. How about Klesla + PHX 2013 2nd for Malone + TBL 2013 2nd?

I'd do it. What is Klesla on a team like ours? 4th D?

If we go with a lineup similar to last year, it would make for an interesting comparison of Cooper's and Boucher's coaching skills. I'd rather have some changes though.

This is what I got, trading away Purcell, Brewer and Malone. And only adding in one draft pick, no FA's.

Aulie was expected to be re-signed. If I had to guess, I think the reason for the wait was whether it was a one way or two way contract. Now for the real question, is Pouliot retained?

Depends on if we move Malone I think. A lot actually rides on Malone actually.

Good to see Aulie re-signed.

Elliott Friedman believes we'll find a trading partner for Malone, not so sure myself... should be an interesting 8 days.

Hopefully. We need some players who have actually played a season or two. If it were up to some people here, all of Panik, Johnson, Palat, Connolly, and whoever we draft third would be on the roster. I like our prospects as much as the next guy, but that's not a recipe for success. Need some established guys in the top 9.

NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly sent out a memo to all 30 teams this week, warning them to play by the book when it comes to buyouts and trades.

Daly's memo warned that any trade/buyout/re-acquire scenario would be deemed a circumvention of the collective bargaining agreement. The CBA prevents teams from re-signing players they've bought out for one year.

Earlier this week, The New York Post reported that the Tampa Bay Lightning and Toronto Maple Leafs had talked about a potential deal to send Vincent Lecavalier to Toronto, where the Leafs would get an asset out of that deal in exchange for using their financial might to absorb a buyout on Lecavalier's contract.

However, later on Wednesday Maple Leafs general manager Dave Nonis told TSN that he never spoke to the Lightning about Lecavalier.

So is the New York Post getting their info from the Hockey Forums now? Eklund?

That brings up a good question, which of the kids do we believe are ready.

Well it is Brooks, he's neither creative nor intelligent enough to come up with it all by himself.

According to Brooks it was "theoretically concocted"....so then the main boards and Leafs fans jump all over it.

I really do try to stay away from those threads but....

...It begins.

Yep. Executing on "the plan" - whatever that is - and reshaping the team in a new image. I'm thinking they are ready to go all in with the youth movement, and not expecting any big free agent forward signings.

Have to admit I'm still a little surprised, having thoroughly digested the arguments, pro and con, about buying out VL.

We just opened a huge glaring hole on 2C. Who's available for that?

Current spots, we need a #2 Center, and a spot for our draft pick, unless we draft Barkov or Mack

Traded Malone for Cap reasons, and Brewer as well. Purcell left in there but we can use him for trade bait for a #2 center or more picks.
