If Brewer and Salo are a pair, we're boned. That would be the slowest pairing in history.

Also, we need a finisher on that second line. Maybe put Killorn down there (he seems to work with everyone) or Panik or Connolly.

which is why you split Hedman and Carle, who are excellent skaters, with them. Hedman with Salo, Carle with Brewer.

Filppula: 5mil aav
Clarkson: 5.25mil aav
Clowe: 4.85mil aav
Horton: 5.3mil aav
Ribiero: 5.5mil aav

Lecavalier: 4.5mil aav

Taken from the Flyers board but Vinnys deal is suddenly looking really good, he is for sure the most talented out of those players.

Drouin is pass-first but he definitely is also a finisher. He led all draft eligible players in goals except for Mantha, but he played less games. It remains to be seen how his goal-scoring abilities will translate to the NHL level, but I'm not worried.

If those other players were getting a second paycheck I'm sure they would have signed for a little less as well.

That all but confirms that management just didn't see Pouliot as a fit or better than our internal options that will be promoted from 'Cuse. 1.3 mil for one year is great value for Pouliot imo.

Looks like Drouin is gonna be on the team now, hope he's eating his Wheaties. I'm pretty sure Malone will be staying too, if not we have the smallest and softest top 9.

Boston signs Iginla, Minny signs Cooke and trades Setoguchi to Winnipeg for their 2014 2nd rounder.

I still think he would've been a solid fit for another year or two on the Lightning but oh well. Time to move on I guess.

Only for Boston to pull out of the deal at the last minute this time around :sarcasm:

Uhh except they gave him five years with a no move clause and he hasn't played a full season since 09-10, his shot velocity is down, his shoulder will never be 100%, and he is 33.

Personally, I don't think Vinny's ever been right since the wrist surgeries. Yes, he can still be a good player, but I've definitely seen a change in his puck control and stick handling. Thing is, will he last 5 years?

Its the shoulder, bro. When you mess up what he did, you're never the same. That shoulder is all types of screwed together and you never recover the same strength, range of motion, etc. Thats why he also wouldn't engage people physically, started to play more defense but became a bit of a perimeter guy in the offensive zone.

I understand that...it's the whole package. He's just never going to be the Vinny he used to be.

What kind of return do you guys think Malone can net?

Just curious as an Oilers fan I feel he could be a good fit for the next two years then we can dump him to pay our young guys.

Toronto looks like they have self-inflicted cap problems. If we unload Malone, then maybe trading for Cody Franson isn't unrealistic after all.

You'd have to believe their first priorities are to get Franson, Kadri and Gunnarsson re-signed. $10.870 mil should be sufficient cap room to re-sign those three players. Colborne will be re-signed as well, but he hasn't really played significant minutes with the Leafs, so I doubt he receives anything over $1 million. Fraser rejected their two-way qualifying offer so I'm not sure what his situation is at right now, but O'Byrne likely won't be re-signed and Komarov signed a two-year deal in the KHL.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have Franson on this team, but I just don't think it's a likely possibility. It'd be trading within your own division and Toronto have the cap room to re-sign him.

That Clarkson deal is just awful. How do you justify signing a borderline top 6 forward who's already 30 years old, to a 7 year deal at 5.25mil/year?

It was something to do with an arbitration clause I believe. If we had re-signed it, he could have made it so we had to pay like 3 mil. I didnt get to read the article fully to understand how it all worked, so sorry if im shaky on the details.

Im just disapointed we didnt trade his contract to nashville for blum's contract. would have made sense for both parties IMO.
