Defensively responsible 2C that fills a hole, allowing us to add some veterans instead of icing a glorified AHL team.

Doesn't mean we should overpay him, but on-ice the fit makes a lot of sense.

Indeed. Way too many new faces at one time to have any idea what will happen.

I don't see us making any headway in the new division, especially with the kind of signings Toronto and Detroit are doing.

honestly, I get the feeling that this year will be another bottom 5 for us, with the kids coming up, Cooper's first full season, new defensive coach and this brutal new division. I also get the feeling that if this happens, Marty may, and I stress MAY request a trade, so he can go after another cup while we rebuild. While I wouldnt want that to happen, we would get a lions share for Marty, which would speed up the rebuild process. This is just speculation though.

More on topic though, I really wanted to see us pick up a guy who would be able fight for a top 4 spot, so we could move brewer down. I think Carle would actually be a good defender, but him and brewer on the same line just dont work.

Really wasn't anything worthwhile as far as D goes this year. When Ference and Scuderi are headlining the D FA class, it's a weak year. We have a plethora of 4-6 D which is what those guys are. Would they be 2-3 Dmen on our team? Sure, but then you're placing players out of their range (see:Brewer). Best to save the overpayment on an average FA and make a trade for a legit top 4.

You hit the nail on the head on this one. The last thing we need is a bad defensman contract right now. Flip is our only big signing hopefully. We need/ have to trade for a legit defender if we want to see an improvement.
