That was the .5ppg season I mentioned. The year before that he was a finalist for the Norris.
You should be calling Benning and trying to change his opinion. None of that means anything to me. OEL isn't PK Subban. And even if you managed to convince me it has no bearing on a reality where two GM's are offering assets for the guy you think is toxic. They don't share your opinion.

Where did I say I thought OEL was toxic? I’m merely showing recent precedent of what a $9M d-man received on a completely open market. We will obviously have to wait and see what OEL’s market value is when limited to 2 teams. Will be interesting.

I don't want to combine OEL and Kuemper. I find that far from ideal. However, with rumors that Boston wants to move on from Rask, I wonder if this might not be the perfect storm. Possible the delay is Boston finding a new home for Tuukka?

Maybe Rask to Toronto for Freddy and Freddy with a nice package of futures for OEL and Kuemper? It's not great for Toronto's cap situation but I have to think they'd love to add Rask, as an upgrade on Freddy. Maybe include Andreas Johnsson? He's a good pass-through asset for Arizona, too. He's owed only $2.6 this season and $2.5 in each of the next two seasons after that, despite a 3.4aav cap-hit.

Toronto adds a world-classs goaltender at the cost of Freddy and AJ, which saves them 1.4aav in cap. Boston moves on from Rask without having to downgrade, and saves them 2.5aav in cap (in goal specifically). We get AJ and Freddy for less in actual cash than is due Kuemper. Frees us up to move Raanta and run with Freddy and Hill as our super cheap cash tandem. It's a tandem I'm 100% fine with.

Question is, what can Boston add to make up for the difference in value, and what's the return they can offer for OEL?

So the guy with an AAV almost a million higher who has never been known for eating hard minutes was coming off an injury and down year, and has had a string of whispers following him around the league returned two seconds. So what? What does that have to do with OEL?
The last four million dollar defenseman traded one returned nothing. Benning should start looking to get Manson for free. Manson is even older.

Nice stawman. If you think Subban's value one year removed from a Norris contending season is so far off OEL's current value, despite only having two potential suitors and twice the contract commitment in a flat cap environment, you're out to lunch.

I'm just telling you what the last $4M defenseman got on the open market.

If the Norris trophy voting wasn’t a complete joke that’s takes point totals waaaay too much into account over anything else, then PK likely wouldn’t have even been nominated let alone won.

Stop adding context to my overly generalized comparisons!

This is what I was getting at with a post a little while ago. Many Boston fans seems to like the idea of paying less for Kuemper and getting an additional year out of him by sending Rask back. To me, that is something that the Coyotes should benefit more from. If that means it turns DeBrusk into Studnicka, and maybe an upgrade of a different player or less that AZ sends the other way, you have to strongly consider it. Especially because goalies appear to be getting locked up. Maybe next year is the year for us to get a longer term goalie and just use Rask for what he is next year. If he likes it here and performs well, maybe we only have about $6 M per year spent on goalie between Rask and Hill. I don't know if Rask agrees to a number like that, but next year's FA goalie crop is not too bad:

Andersen
Binnington
Allen
Rask
Dubnyk
Grubauer
Mrazek
Rittich

I think Toronto would prefer to just swap Kuemper for Freddie +. Rask costs more and is UFA after this season. I just really don't see us being involved in a Rask deal

If he's adding teams, he must really want out. That's a good sign there will be a deal. I'm for keeping him and trying again at the deadline or next year if they don't get a good return.

Yes. If the goal was to move him to recoup assets lost because of boy genius and to avoid the $10.5M salary next season, if a deal doesn't accomplish both, why do it? You've got a full season to come at this again, including the deadline where he's prorated cap for the year and teams can plan for the next summer, x-draft, etc. If we're eating cap and salary in year two, for peanuts, you've got two years to make a better deal.

What is a ROR type return? 2020 2nd, 2021 1st, Beecher, Lauzon and Ritchie? Is that pretty close to what Buffalo got from St Louis?

Moore would be in there. Berglund and Sobotka were toast. Ritchie is as least usable and they can buy him out for no penalty. Thompson = Beecher.

I don't think anyone has high hopes for Lauzon and he lost his job to Clifton because Clifton is just better on the right side and is an actual RHS.

I'd be 100% fine with that return as long as they really like the two young guys. I'd rather have Vak than Lauzon and a later pick.

Lauzon bounced between Providence and the Bruins this year and last.He has 35 games over two seasons. How exactly did he "lose his job"? He's never had a full time roster spot. Chara, McAvoy, Krug, Carlo, Grz, Moore

Kid is 23.

I agree. OEL will not play for RT. The good news is the BA did not going to trade OEL just to make a trade. BA is holding his ground, the way it looks anyway.
