This is so fascinating when you think about the fact the only teams we have lost to are in the Pacific.

The Central remains the most difficult division in hockey with only one team that has a negative goal differential. Complete opposite in the Pacific.

So what makes this year different than before? Same team and coaches the difference is how other teams are playing our PP. We need to adjust to how they are adjusting. Now Lavy did say that we haven't had a lot of practice time which is true. If you are going to do a complete overall of the PP you have to have a few days of practice to do it and our schedule hasn't had much time to do it. Now that we are home we may get some practice time but injuries have changed up the personnel with Arvy and Subban out. We need to get it figured out

We had yet to put Watson on the ice for power plays until this week. That's one difference FWIW.

One of the questions for the Hat Trick Challenge is "Will the Preds score a power play goal?".

I'm really torn on my answer. On one hand we are playing a 31st place L.A. team on a back to back with a 3rd or 4th string goalie. On the other hand, it's our power play.

I still picked yes because I always pick yes for a Preds answer, but I'm really not sure!

Fantastic game from Jarnkrok.

I liked Smith on the top line. He's no Arvidsson but he's probably the best replacement available.

Fiala seems determined to find out how deep in the dog house it's possible to be. Another very lackluster game from him.

20 game mark last year the team had been called for 120 penalties (307 minutes) led by McCleod with 14 penalties (67 minutes) followed by Johansen with 10 & 23 minutes.

this season team 72 penalties (158 minutes) led by Renaldo 7 & 20 then 3 players with 6 each (Johansen, Forsberg and Ekholm).

ignore the 62 games with 0 penalties glitch in spreadsheet, actually we have not had a penalty free game.

Some of those point totals are incorrect. Without checking all of them, I can see a point missing from Joey and Turris.

Thanks, I appreciate the extra set of eyes. probably a function mis copied ... actually finding that the Official Game Summary has been changed since I first downloaded it and certain assists are being altered. Does anyone know when the Official Game Summary is actually the finalized??? I'm going back through all the reports now.

For instance the original OGS for Islanders game (10/6/18) had Sissons as secondary assist on Ekholms goal, now it is Hartman. I enter what is posted on the OGS the morning after the game so if they change it later my spreadsheet is off.

Think I got the assists correct now. Some problems were excel functions, some were late OGS updates.

should be by the next game fossil, but there is no guarantee. the league reviews each goal after each game and that's where the changes come from as I understand it.

Ok, I did my 25% of the way stats and what's jumping out is how the RHD are not as ridiculous stats wise. Yes, Ellis is on pace for 40 points but very few goals. Subban is on pace for 48 points but less than 15 goals. Rinne is on pace for another Vesina. Watson is on pace to be a point per player (Way too small sample size), same with Arvidsson. Let's take a step back and look at Forsberg. He's on pace for 45-50 goals. For an aging Erat... Damn.

I'd put at us about B- for the season so far. We've had some really good games in this first 20, but we had some relative steamers of games - two in the last five. Considering the bodies we've lost, that's not too bad (and we're 14-5-1), but it could be a portent of what's up in the rest of the first half of the season.

Subban hurt, Hartman hurt, Arvidson hurt. Still on a 116 pace. If this is B-, WTF is an A?
Consistently effective power play/ penalty kill
Playing excellent hockey every minute of every period
Energy from every player
Smart plays from every player every shift

It's not B- in comparison to the league, it is B- (or whatever) as it compares to the standards for an A, a B, a C, etc. I'd grade a B+ because of wins, but you just can't give a team an A with that power play (last game helped, though).

I'd give us an A-. Our 5 on 5 is like extra credit to offset the putrid PP.

Hard to argue against an A when you have the(tied) best record in the league.
