Salomaki sucks
he has to be the most useless player to see 8 minutes plus of ice time in the past 5-7 years of this franchise. maybe hordichuk (10+ years) at one point with the SH*T line but at least they just smashed the hell out of everyone. and hordi didn't see the ice this much.

I think I'm going tomorrow, if not I'll post on here.
cheapest on stubhubs (way high nosebleeds so don't know your tickets) are $29. with fees for 2 it comes out to $77 I believe. would rather pay one of you guys for a cold December game than a random guy on stubhub that may be more than face value.

with about .75 of a goal per game out of our lineup in what is still a 3-2 league, we are in a bit of trouble. Saving grace might be the difference in having a lot of home ice and a weaker schedule ahead for the next 3 weeks. Doesn't mean that I don't worry though about us going into a serious tailspin though. Would be hockey foolishness to not be.

Bottom line sucks right now. I know that most teams could say that, but I had higher expectations. When Rinaldo is my preferred option then you know you are bad (looking at you Salomaki).

Bottom line improves a lot once Arvy & Turris get back. Plus I fully expect Poile to trade another 1st or 2nd to get another forward for the cup run. The bottom 3 we see today may all be scratches by the time we get to the postseason.

I agree and I hope we are both right.

I am sure I am not alone here, but I absolutely hate it when injuries strike and make us so shorthanded. I know injuries are a fact of life and happen to every team, but the 3 we are missing right now is a huge deal- would cripple just about any team.

It probably shouldn't but it kind of sucks up some of my enthusiasm for the games.

I feel really good about our team when we are at full strength and have our full lineup. The question is- when is that going to be the case?? We know when Arvy is coming back, and Subban should HOPEFULLY be back at some point soon (although as usual his injury is a complete mystery). But Turris is a wild card- no telling how long he is going to be out.

We just have to find a way to survive until we get everyone back. These next two games are very important in my opinion- we absolutely need to beat Arizona/Chicago even with our injuries.

Win those two and we will be sitting here with a 19-7-1 record. I would be ecstatic with that considering everything.........

Injuries suck but as you said it's a part of it. I'm not really worried. Preds are weakened but even in the current state are good enough to beat anybody in the NHL. Ebbs and Flows of the season. As long as everyone is healthy for the playoffs I'm good.

Responding to the bolded...what makes these games so important?

I was probably guilty of making it bigger than it is- just saying that we need to win as many games against lesser competition that we can while we are this shorthanded. Not going to be easy to beat the good teams, so we better take care of business in the games we SHOULD win.

They forgot to tell the Preds the scoring is up in the NHL.

Ellis with a beatiful screen in that 3rd ARZ goal, imagine if we screened the opposition goalie like that?

i see people gripping about our defensemen last night in the game day thread. but the defensive failings on both their even strnegth goals were our forwards fault. Johansen's man on the first, Forsberg's man on the 2nd. both left just open enough to get off high danger mid slot shots. we all love forsberg but he tends to cost us many goals in our own end, he's a ferocious backchecker out near the blueline when he sees a chance to turn it into offensive counters, but not near as good from the mid circle to lower in the defensive zone. and that tendency gets worse when he's not playing well offensively.

what this team really needs in my opinion is another high skill forward. i've always thought that. in my mind the hockey logical deal would be subban for that high skill guy. he's the only one that would bring the return we need plus freeing up the cap space to have that guy. i know it won't happen because of his popularity and the commitment of management, but again in my mind it's the type deal that makes the most sense.

I'm trying to keep a level perspective on the current situation. Arvy/Turris/Subban would slide right into any starting roster in the league so those guys being out definitely hurts. Without them the Preds are going to basically play like a borderline 8 seed team.

With that said, I do think the Preds need a scoring upgrade so doesn't hurt to go ahead and pull the trigger on that if at all possible. Just not sure it gets the team over the hump if it comes at the cost of one of the top 4 unless there is opportunity to upgrade one of the current bottom 2 a bit.

I agree that the team needs another top-end forward. I think they were hoping Tolvenen was going to be that guy. He may be in the future but not right now. We have relied so heavily on defensemen scoring that when it isn't happening it just shows how thin we are in top 6 forwards. We could lose 1 top 6 guy and be OK but losing 2 of them for any length of time and this is the team we had last night.
