I don't know if I want to be the one to revive an eight year old thread, but that observation (Gretzky being in the top ten in scoring, at age 24, almost 70 years into the league's history) surely belongs here.

In the Matthews/Marner/Nylander era for the Leafs they are 9-19 at home in the playoffs. I mean...............why?

Yep. And in the Oilers' last six overtime games at home, they're 0-6.

You wonder how that's possible with McDavid and Draisaitl...

That is just absurd. I don't know a whole lot about Daryl Evans' career other than what everyone knows him for and that's the overtime winner in the Miracle on Manchester game. But what gives? He had a nice postseason in 1982 as a rookie with 13 points in 10 games, then has 40 points in the next season and then 4 straight years of only getting 1 point in the NHL while playing most of the season in the minors. Why couldn't he stick around I wonder?

Just to keep pushing crazy Gretzky counting stats.

Gretzky entered the top 250 in points on October 28, 1981. He was 20 years old.

Gretzky entered the top 100 in points on November 1, 1982. He was 21 years old.

Gretzky entered the top 50 in points on April 1, 1983. He was 22 years old.

Gretzky entered the top 25 in points on January 25, 1984. He was 23 years old.

Gretzky entered the top 10 in points on January 8, 1986. He was 24 years old.

Gretzky entered the top 5 in points on October 31, 1986. He was 25 years old.

Gretzky overtook Dionne for second in points on January 21, 1989. He was 28 years old.

Gretzky overtook Howe for first in points on October 15, 1989. He was 28 years old.

Gretzky became the all time assists leader on March 1, 1988. He was 27 years old.

Crosby is currently 10th with 1,596 points. If Gretzky retired on December 19th, 1987 (age 26) he would still be ahead of Crosby in points and thus still top 10 all time in points.

Everyone else in the top 7 are original six players who played in a time when, if you were a Hab, Hawk or red wing you were likely to play Toronto most seasons.

It just occurred to me that after Coffey left Edmonton in 1987 and Gretzky in 1988, every single core Oiler scorer went on to lead NHL clubs in scoring:

It made me curious to look up Sakic and Forseberg and sure enough their rookie seasons were nice but not list topping then they went atomic in their sophomore seasons. Peter was actually over a point per game but it was the lockout season.

I say this a lot, but... That's gotta be a record, right?

In fact, I bet the player with the next highest number is not even that close. Probably 6, maybe 7.

I may not be wrong that Quinn is the record holder, but I'm already wrong about the degree to which he is. Because the information is readily available, I checked for goalies with the most GP without a win, and I found Fitzpatrick, Billington, Budaj and Waite (9, 8, 7, 6), who have no wins but only nine total decisions between them. Surely, they've played once in a win in a non-decision game? Nope. So there's four right there who've played 6-9 playoff games without a win.

As for skaters, we'll have to wait on pnep.
