I've mentioned it many times, but since it's my favorite stat of all time, why not once more?:

1983-84 Edmonton Oilers
-- Forward Pat Conacher: 45 games played, 10 points.
-- Goalie Grant Fuhr: 45 games played, 14 points.

A slightly obscure fact (to me) is that Wayne Gretzky played one NHL game at the Detroit Olympia. The date was Nov. 7th, 1979, and the Red Wings beat Edmonton, 5 to 3 (Gretzky nevertheless had a goal--the 5th of his career--and an assist).

Sprague Cleghorn and Frank Nighbor also played in the same building.

I learned today that Ville Pokka has a Stanley cup ring (Chicago 2015) even though he has 0 NHL games played, not sure but his name most likely in not on the Cup. He also won Olympic gold this year. Would you consider him part of the triple gold club if Finland wins WHC this year?

Pokka also has won WJC gold medal, and KHL and Liiga championships.

Eliteprospects for example does list Stanley Cup in his accomplishments.

If I was Finnish, I think that I would hope my country’s first “triple gold club member” be something better than Chicago black ace Ville Pokka. Thankfully, if Finland wins this spring, Valtteri Filppula will be a legit first entry from Finland.

Petteri Lindbohm also if Florida wins the Cup. But Filppula is absolutely most deserving of these three

Yeah, I think Lindbohm’s yet to play a second of Stanley Cup playoff hockey, but there’s time still. And if Finland fails to win this year’s WHC, Lindbohm still has a shot at becoming their first TGC member. But as said, I’d prefer to see a legit roster player/cup contributor like Filppula have the honor.

And that's Calgary (1984) both times winning in Edmonton.

Kind of fun fact Johnny Gaudreau scored in his first NHL game but it was not only his first goal it was his first and only shot of the season. Gaudreau's shooting percentage for 2013-14 season is 100%

Nathan MacKinnon was a Hart trophy finalist three times in the span of four years. I was trying to figure out how common that is.

Going back to the end of WWII, I think it's only been done by 20 players:
  1. Gordie Howe (multiple streaks, the earliest being 1951-1953)
  2. Red Kelly (1951-1954)
  3. Jean Beliveau (multiple streaks, the earliest being 1956-59)
  4. Andy Bathgate (1957-59)
  5. Bobby Hull (multiple streaks, the earliest being 1962-65)
  6. Bobby Orr (multiple streaks, the earliest being 1969-71)
  7. Phil Esposito (multiple streaks, the earliest being 1969-72)
  8. Bobby Clarke (multiple streaks, the earliest being 1973-1976)
  9. Guy Lafleur (multiple streaks, the earliest being 1976-1978)
  10. Marcel Dionne (1979-1981)
  11. Wayne Gretzky (multiple streaks, the earliest being 1980-82)
  12. Mario Lemieux (1986-1989)
  13. Brett Hull (1990-1992)
  14. Dominik Hasek (multiple streaks, the earliest being 1994-97)
  15. Jaromir Jagr (multiple streaks, the earliest being 1998-2000)
  16. Martin Brodeur (2003-2007 - skipping the lockout)
  17. Alexander Ovechkin (2008-2010)
  18. Sidney Crosby (multiple streaks, the earliest being 2013-2016)
  19. Nathan MacKinnon (2018-2021)
  20. Connor McDavid (2019-2022)
Auston Matthews could join the list if he's a Hart finalist in 2023 or 2024.

The data during & prior to WWII is incomplete but I checked a few likely suspects. Howie Morenz and Maurice Richard didn't do this, but Eddie Shore, Syl Apps, and Bill Cowley did (Cowley getting all three of those years during the talent-depleted WWII seasons). Not sure if there's anybody else.

I posted this in another thread, and figured I might as well share it here, too:

I wonder how many times in NHL history a team has scored three goals or fewer in a four game series. Can't be very many.

I went back and looked at every sweep (plus 1st rounds which ended 3-1 in the best-of-5 format) since around 1980. It’s very possible there are more examples in earlier eras, but anyways: since 1994, there have been six teams excluding the 2022 Panthers who’ve failed to score more than three goals in a playoff series lasting four games. Two teams managed even worse than the Panthers did: Minnesota Wild only managed a single goal on eventual Conn Smythe winner Giguere in the 2003 WCFs, and the mighty Penguins were held to only two goals against the Bruins in the 2013 ECFs.

4 goals or fewer in a 4 game playoff series

2018 Ducks v. Sharks 4-16 (1st rd)
2006 Avalanche v. Ducks 4-16 (2nd rd)
2006 Rangers v. Devils 4-17 (1st rd)
1996 Panthers v. Avs 4-15 (SCFs)

2018 Kings v. Golden Knights 3-7 (1st rd)
2017 Blackhawks v. Preds 3-13 (1st rd)
2001 Senators v. Leafs 3-10 (1st rd)
1994 Islanders v. Rangers 3-22 (1st rd)

2013 Penguins v. Bruins 2-12 (ECFs)

2003 Wild v. Ducks 1-9 (WCFs)

Just saw this the other day. The Hurricanes have a 9-0 series record when they are up 3-2 in the series. Or is it when they win Game 5 when it is tied 2-2, it might be that. Say what? The Hurricanes? Nah. Not sure if that includes the Whalers as well.

One obscure stat that I'm pretty proud of as a Rangers fan is that the Rangers in 2011-12 went 70 games before they allowed 5 goals in a game not counting a 5-4 shootout loss to the Sens (and it shouldn't count because there was no 5th goal given up). That was an NHL record. I believe the game they set the record, game 56 against Chicago, they gave up 4 goals in less than 10 minutes. They did not allow another goal. They only allowed 5 goals or more twice that regular season, both times to the Pens, and once in the playoffs to the Devils. I believe two of the three were including an empty netter. So they allowed 5 goals with a goalie in net once all season. That goalie was Marty Biron. So Lundqvist went an entire season without allowing more than 4 goals in a game.

In his past 22 NHL games (RS & playoffs) vs. the Calgary Flames, Leon Draisaitl has scored 49 points. That's a pace of 183 points per 82 games.

In these same 22 games vs. Calgary, Draisaitl had 41 assists. That's a pace of 153 assists per 82 games.

I was surprised to see Glenn Anderson (442) had more career penalty minutes in the playoffs than Chris Chelios (423), which is only remarkable coupled with the fact that Anderson only played 225 games to Chelios' 266. Their regular season PIMs are skewed entirely the other way.

That Anderson is 7th all-time in playoff PIMs is something I never would have guessed...
