Oakland man, f***

Between the NY team owners and their media, they’ve done more to point out how shitty and crooked the A’s ownership is more than any other source.

Im sorry dude, I really want the A’s in Oakland.
This is a damn shame.

Imagine an Original Six team just packing up and moving.

I know the A's didn't start in Oakland but the franchise has been in existence for over 120 years. Teams with that kind of history shouldn't be forced to relocate.

Tragic. :help:

Even as an east coaster who doesn't really watch the A's, I'm saddened by this. One of the longest-serving franchises. Damn iconic logo and colours too. Crushing news to hear for you A's fans. Sucks.

You're almost guaranteed to lose a sports team if you dont pony up public funds. I understand people kvetching about giving billionaires public money but thats just the way the system works - in 99% of cases, no mayor or governor wants to be the person who lets the local pro sports team walk.

Interesting to see how they'll draw in Vegas long term. Double the amount of home games the NHL so not as easy as relying on tourists.

The A's won 5 titles in Philadelphia and then they abandoned it for KC, then moved again to Oakland after like 13 years. This is not the same as an Original 6 team moving. This team has moved two other times.

They haven't been forced to do anything. They have chosen to relocate, just like they have two other times in their history, just like the Dodgers, Giants, Braves and Nationals.

The good thing is that they don't have to change their caps. The A is iconic and works no matter the city they play in. Should be interesting to see if they change the colors. I certainly like the green and gold but the original blue is also damn cool.

Chase Field is fine but the upper deck is cavernous and can't really be renovated. That's their big motivation for a new park, along with being able to build their own entertainment district with it.

Rangers needed a roof, but the stadium itself was fine. Braves wanted out of the area.

Its just unfortunate they completely botched the design and Globe Life Fields looks like a random nondescript warehouse.

I know; like I said earlier it's not like they've been in Oakland since the franchise was established back in 1901.

They bounced around a few times, but it's still a founding (or "original") franchise and I think that means something.

Hopefully Vegas takes care of them.

Bummed in 2 ways:
1) Wanted them to stay. Bay Area should be a 2-team market
2) If/When Vegas did happen, I was hoping for the Tropicana site. MGM Grand, NY/NY, Excalibur, and the ballpark on 1 corner would've been epic.

Is there any way there is a last-ditch effort that saves the A's, or is it a foregone conclusion at this point this is going through? 2027 is a long ways away and would be a slow, painful death for the franchise and its fanbase.

They'd probably move by 2025 and just play 2 or 3 seasons in the Aviators stadium here.

In terms of your question, its probably 90/10 that its over in Oakland. If Oakland came to them and said "here, you can have the deal you wanted for the Terminal development" then I can see them staying. Buying the land doesn't make it 100% definitely done. 50 acres of Strip adjacent land is a great investment that you can just stuff in your portfolio and sit on it while it appreciates in value.

it's f***ing over

f*** fisher and kaval (rooted in oakland huh?) for destroying one of baseball's most iconic franchises. and lol @ vegas if they think fisher is going to suddenly start spending once the A's move there. he'll still be the same cheap scumbag he is now
Loria part 2.

Give me my stadium because f*** you, and after that, still f*** you.

Scumbag.

Happy as a Las Vegan. I hate the Athletics for many reasons, but anyway to get a team. Baseball is the missing piece in my opinion. I feel for the people of Oakland.

Curious will Athletic fans still support them like many have Raiders?

I couldn't imagine losing two teams to same city
doubt many of the fans in the bay area will continue supporting them. not sure if i'll continue to support them, at least for as long as fisher owns the team

don't get your hopes up. fisher isn't going to start spending money all of a sudden and in a few years, you guys will be wondering why the owner isn't investing in the on-field product and why no one is showing up to the games despite the shiny new stadium

not sure why anyone in vegas would be excited to get this steaming pile of dogshit anyways

Again hate the A's. Just happy to see baseball in Vegas. Don't care how terrible the home team is, they will never be mine. I would go to a baseball game anywhere regardless of the team.

One big benefit for Vegas is that it is a tourist destination. I would never plan a vacation to Oakland. I would to Vegas, however. It gives another entertainment option in that in lieu of others going to a show or concert, I'd instead go check out a sporting event. Checking out a major league baseball game in another city in a shiny new ballpark is a rare opportunity. Will the lustre wear off? Possibly. But there are enough people passing through the city that surely the interest will be high enough. Particularly when there are no sports/teams during the summer months to compete with.

A's ownership gets their wish after intentionally poisoning the local fanbase for years now. Hope their attendance goes from miniscule to non-existent for the next few years.
