I don’t even like Dubas and I thought this was a beautiful trade. Exactly what we needed. Love the player too.
Same hereI wanted ROR when STL got him from BUF. Better late than never I guess.
For sure that's the way it will go. I believe trades should be judged before the results come in - after all Dubas doesn't know the results when he makes his decisions so I think it makes to put yourself in his place and ask if what he did makes sense at the time.I didn’t love the trade initially, but came around as time went by. Today looked really good, but this trade will probably be seen as good or bad after the first round
I've been wondering about that as well. But like you said, if we did overpay it's not by much so not a big concern.GM of the week !
Seriously, the trade is good, you can argue it could be done cheaper, but probably not by much and this trade addressed the needs of this team.
On the other hand, give me a break, if Kyle started his jobs two weeks ago we could praise him for good week, but wth you're doing now?
Kadri was coming off winning the Stanley Cup and putting up 87 points in 71 regular season games followed by 15 points in 16 playoff games. There’s zero chance O’Reilly will get the same contract as Kadri.you don't give up the picks Dubas did on rentals just to get out of the first , this is a cup or bust move and it should be judged that way
ROR has never been an easy sign and if people had an issue with Marner's dad well he's got nothing on ROR's old man . I'd be pleasantly surprised if he'd re-sign at a reasonable price/term but he's probably looking for a similar deal to Kadri's and i can't say i'd blame him .
Be prepared, doubt he is staying.I'd be disappointed if we do not resign him.

My guess is O’Reilly can get 5.5-6.5 on a 4+ year contract. Maybe he gives us a little discount to stay in Toronto. His whole family seems REALLY pumped he’s finally playing here.

I wouldn’t say dramatically better at this point in both their careers. Kadri has played some really good hockey over the past two years meanwhile O’Reilly’s game has slowed down a bit compared to previous years. I honestly don’t think there will be many teams willing to go past 5 years on O’Reilly if that. These type of players usually really slow down by the time they hit 35/36.All I’m gonna say is ROR is a dramatically better player than Nazem Kadri.
Maybe he will, maybe he won’t. We have no idea. Not really sure why one would choose to go into it with a negative outlook though
I have no idea what he’d get as a ufa or whether he’ll sign for a discount here but I do know trying to use Kadri’s best season he's by far ever had to try to lower ROR’s ask is is a joke .Kadri was coming off winning the Stanley Cup and putting up 87 points in 71 regular season games followed by 15 points in 16 playoff games. Who cares about that now? Worry about it in the off-season.Disappointed.
Just what the Leafs needed another top 6 forward.
I guess Accairi is that, but O'Rielly 3 games 5 points.
He's going to get great offers this summer. How are they going to fit that under the Cap?
He only got 1.2 mil last yr I think.Disappointed.

Good player, seems like a good guy as well, we aren’t beating Boston so we wasted more assets to win maybe a single round.
Just give ROR 4mil/8 yrs and front load it. He gets 32 mil and retire as a Leafs. Maybe he won’t provide 4mil worth when he is 36 or older but he should be good before that.Kadri was coming off winning the Stanley Cup and putting up 87 points in 71 regular season games followed by 15 points in 16 playoff games.
