“It’s abundantly obvious that they’re trying to make something work with JT Miller. And I think some of the pushback that I got was from the Rangers end, was not so much that it was a clause that was related to the first-round pick being moved, but that it was the Rangers not being willing to take on the entirety of JT Miller’s contract. That ended up being the hangup.”

- Serevalli
I still haven't heard that the Canucks would need to retain to move Miller. The Rangers may well have asked for that, but retention on a six-year plus contract was always a non-starter.

It was the media stirring up the BS, the issues weren’t nearly as bad as they wanted them to appear. Pettersson himself isn’t happy Miller is gone
LOL, do you expect EP to say "good riddance". He's saving face. Both players I'm sure are a bit embarrassed and rightfully so.

The trade got nixed because the Canucks wouldn't retain, sure it would have been a non starter but the team trading for the guy with the NMC stopped the trade in it's tracks because they wouldn't take his whole deal despite having a ton of space.

Therefore... the Canucks would have had to retain to get a deal done with the Rangers prior to yesterday.

Honestly this trade will just make things worse for Pettersson.

Probably feels like an outcast even moreso now in that locker room. And now all the pressure is squarely on him to perform. No more excuses.

Dude, Rutherford basically held up a sign saying there’s big problems between them and it’s still the media’s fault for stirring up BS?

Imma call absolute BS. You talk to any player in the Canucks locker room right now and what are they going to say if they loved Miller?

"Hurts to see a guy like that go, this isn't the ending anyone wanted, we should have been better than this, he'll be missed"

What are they going to say if they despised him?

"Hurts to see a guy like that go, this isn't the ending anyone wanted, we should have been better than this, he'll be missed"

What are they going to say if they didn't even know who Miller was because they had nothing to do with him?

Seravelli is a click bait merchant. He likes to stir the pot whenever possible. And to be honest I enjoy is brashness a lot but ya it should be taken with a grain of salt. They're upset sure, they move on this is pro sports. The trade had to be made. The previous report was many of the team wanted him gone.

Rangers took the Canucks to the cleaners with this one.

Upgraded a third line center to a first liner for a mid 1st rounder in a weak draft and a depth D
Yup but the Canucks had to move him. And his contract length is a danger no doubt. Though with the cap going up maybe more manageable.

It's pretty amusing seeing how some fans look at Brannstrom's points and think "And he had xx points in x games he's got potential" and not quite understand that his defensive metrics in a pretty sheltered role with Van were terrible. He's gonna have to do a big turn around here (any team could have just had him for free a few weeks ago - he's gone down and looked great in the AHL but I wouldn't be betting much money on him being a player this year.......

And Jackson Dorrington...........I didn't even know we had this prospect.........that's how high he is on our prospect charts..........

I'm wondering if some Van fans aren't the same way with Mancini.......I know I have watched a few highlights and seen how physical he is and get excited.........While Rags fans may be chuckling at us thinking we got someone who you think would top out at as a 6thd.........

If you can remove the snark, Mancini could become a player in the mold of Ryan McDonagh.

That seems terribly optimistic. At the same age as Mancini is now, McDonagh was a full-time NHL regular as a budding elite two way defenseman with 120 games under his belt.

Some of the takes on him in this thread are surprising, especially from Rangers fans. He’s an interesting piece, but is most likely a 5/6 at this level. He will be 23 before this season ends, so he has some runway, but this isn’t a 19 year old former 12th overall pick and Captain of a national championship caliber team they just traded. He seems like a good kid and a decent player, but I’m really not seeing the takes about “wish it was Schneider,” and him being a “key” piece.

Is the GM a member of the media now?

“We’ve had those conversations, and I think the parties understand that and I think they’ve tried,” Rutherford said. “As you know, sometimes emotions get deep and as much as people try sometimes you can’t get over it. It certainly appears that’s what’s going on here.”

EDIT: since you responded by laughing, I’ll post another JR quote

“We’re talking about two of our top players,” Rutherford said. “Certainly, our two best forwards. It can really be tough on a franchise -- not only present but into the future -- when you’re planning on peaking this team into a contending team and then you find out that’s not going to happen. Or at least it’s not going to happen with the group we have now. Then you have to put together a new plan.”

Yes the media is at fault for pouring kerosene on the fire, JR is completely innocent and had nothing to do with it!

This seems like a crap return on Miller. Essentially Miller for Pettersson and Chytil.
