Confirmed Trade: [NYR/VAN] JT Miller, Erik Brannstrom, Jackson Dorrington for Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini, 2025 1st round pick (top 13 protected)

And Chytil is a 40-50pt center playing 3rd line minutes (mostly) and zero pp time. If he can avoid concussions and gets better usage in Vancouver I can easily see that progressing in a year or two to 60-70 or possibly even higher.
I like Chytil, but he's not that type of talent.

He's also unlikely to stay healthy if history is any guide...

He has NHL potential. He's not going to be a stud, but I can certainly see him as a quality 3rd pairing D. I'd say his ceiling is a guy who doesn't look out of place on a 2nd pair. There is certainly value in that.
What would you value him as a pick right now?

2nd?

Say what you gotta say

The defensman was the big piece , judging by Ranges fans
Ranger fans are exaggerating. Mancini has potential, but he does't have anywhere near Chytil's value.

... and I say that as a guy who isn't a big Chytil fan.

I would say a 3rd.

He's the type of guy you would have rather held onto, but you aren't losing sleep over it. He also doesn't have the BOOM potential where you think you could get burned. Saying that, I do think he'll establish himself as an NHL defenseman, just don't expect that he's going to be a rock in your top 4. However, I could see him being a quality guy on your 3rd pair who could step up for periods if needed.

As a Ranger fan, this is not the direction that I wanted the team to go in. I was more into trading off some big contracts and looking to do a re-set over 2-3 years. I have really lost faith in the core of this team. Realistically, I think we all know they weren't going to do a full tilt rebuild from scratch even if some of us might like to see that.

With that said, it's hard to hate this trade. The Rangers def won in terms of value. That's not to say that Vancouver did a bad job, they just didn't have much leverage in this somewhat unique situation. Miller is still a high-end player who could rejuvenate the team. As far as what the Rangers gave up, I'm not a big Chytil fan. Injuries are a very serious concern. He'll have brief periods where he plays really well, but I don't think he has the ability or health to sustain it consistently over a full season. I really don't see him as much of a loss. Mancini is a solid prospect with potential, but he's not a guy you lose sleep over losing. The 1st rounder is the one piece given up that I really hate to lose, but even that is lottery protected. It could potentially burn them in 2026 if things go that way, but I REALLY don't see things playing out like that.

In the end, I'm cool with the trade, but I'm not exactly doing cartwheels.

SN implying Carolina had a deal with the Canucks before they traded for Rantanen.

Basically said the Canucks got greedy and asked for too much.

Thankfully this saga should be over.

Gotta wonder if there will be any fallout from this, in terms of Rutherford/Allvin/Tocchet losing their jobs or not having their contracts renewed. With a weak owner, sadly, I suspect things will stay the way they are and players will opt not to re-sign when their UFA comes up.

The Canucks got a roster player, a prospect and a 1st round pick with zero salary retention.

That is some pieces to work with. Just as the Horvat trade was. Unlike say, the original Taylor Hall trade.

I think New Jersey was stupid not to go after a player like Miller. There's a lot of teams that need older players. NY isn't really one of them. But the trade still works for them. I just think there's a few teams out there that lost for not being in the sweepstakes.

It’s kind of funny how much people worship these pseudo macho tough guys in sports like Miller. He has never won shit. But because he hits and throws temper tantrums people act like he’s some sort of natural born leader and winner. He’s just as whiny as Pettersson, except Pettersson actually won a championship in a pro league before, and Miller hasn’t won anything except on a stacked USA WJC team. Not a coincidence he keeps getting traded despite being a PPG centre. Hes a cancer. And a loser.

Well he was hovering at about a half a point per game before getting traded to Vancouver. Rangers and lightning simply f***ed up and traded a player that was just entering his prime.

Sure. Then Vancouver traded him too. When 3 teams do the same thing , maybe you’re the problem.

Book it. He’ll be an issue in NY before 2025 is over.
