Confirmed Trade: [NYR/VAN] JT Miller, Erik Brannstrom, Jackson Dorrington for Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini, 2025 1st round pick (top 13 protected)

I'm a Rangers fan, I like JT Miller, I've missed him since the Rangers traded him to Tampa Bay. I'm happy to see him a Ranger again.

Vancouver fans, you may not be happy, but you won this trade. Chytil is better than you think. Mancini looks like he's going to be an NHL defenseman. And you shed salary, drama, and get an extra first round pick.

We're not trading 100 point star fan favorite JT Miller, we're trading 65 point malcontent pain in the ass JT Miller. And that Miller is aging out of his prime having just signed a retirement contract that could end up in OEL territory within a few years.

Given the circumstances, and the fact that his NMC meant he probably only waived for New York, this return is acceptable.

I think this is a win for Vancouver. Miller is signed until he's 37 and between his NMC and Locker room issues he wasn't going to have much value. Vancouver was able to take on no bad contracts, got an interesting, albeit injury prone player in Chytil on a decent contract and a potential unprotected 1st round pick in 2026 for a very risky long term contract.

They didn't trade the 65 point malcontent, they threw away their playoff chances by catering to him.

Miller might one day be overpaid. He might even be as overpaid as EP is right now!

Who even gives a shit about making the playoffs? This team would get swept even with Miller.

And Chytil is a 40-50pt center playing 3rd line minutes (mostly) and zero pp time. If he can avoid concussions and gets better usage in Vancouver I can easily see that progressing in a year or two to 60-70 or possibly even higher.

Don't know why people think this is such a terrible return for Vancouver. I'm not saying they won the trade, but it's not that bad, especially considering they didn't have the best leverage.

Chytil is basically a second line center, but he's always injured and there's vets with clauses and track records that coaches apparently can't bench and GM's can't trade. He's a good player. He'll be a 2C for Vancouver, as long as he can stay healthy. He's also 6 years younger than Miller.

First obviously is a big part of the deal. Rangers very well might not make the playoffs, and then that either makes it 14-16 or an unprotected first next year (which comes with tons of danger for the Rangers).

Mancini is a good player, and is way better than he's ranked in prospect rankings. The people who don't follow the team will think he's roster filler, but he's been trending towards becoming at least a regular 3rd pair defenseman, and potentially a second pair defenseman the last six months. Not a player I'd want to give up. He's as good or better of a prospect than Emery, who we drafted round one in 2024. But we could afford to trade him because we have amazing RHD depth. Someone had to go. Can't play 5 RHD at once.

Obviously I'm happy with this trade as a Rangers fan. Getting a 100 point player for none of our best assets is a no-brainer, and we are a team trying to win. We lack a 1C because Zibanejad has forgotten how to play hockey, and now JTM can fill that hole. He's aged better, and maybe this means Zibanejad is forced out in the offseason. I don't like giving up Chytil or a first or Mancini, but we were always going to get rid of a RHD at some point, so whatever with Mancini. Don't like giving up Chytil, but whatever with his injuries and we have three centers now that would presumably force him to the wing. And I'm not going to make the biggest deal in the world about giving up a first for a team that is trying to win now and just gained a 100 point player. Team got better from this trade. Now they need to wake up, and start playing a lot better than they have this season. Can't be trading for Miller and having the season end with missing the playoffs or a first round exit.

:laugh:In a thread with like 800 posts, I for one am so glad for the small collection of Oilers fans repeatedly gloating about how bad this deal is and how much cope and butthurt they’re seeing from Canucks fans. They’re outnumbering the tally of Canucks fans raging about the deal, but that’s beside the point. If we didn’t have them, I wouldn’t know what to think.

As a Ranger fan I like this trade.

Chytil is the most over rated player on the Rangers board since Ryan Lindgren. Its only recently the Rangers board realized Lindgren isn't very good. Before that it was he is a heart and soul guy that makes Fox better haha delusional. He is a black hole offensively and gets beat up regularly by everyone. He also doesn't excel at anything. Can't wait until he is off the team.

Canucks fans I am sorry in advance. Chytil is made of glass and shoots less than 10%. Last year there was a point he had the lowest career shooting % on the team except for Goodrow. Chytil biggest issue is he doesn't have a shot and can't finish. He skates in and makes a great move and shoots the puck into the goalies chest most times. That is why Ranger fans on this board get giddy. They see this great opportunity and not the fact he can't finish. He is also terrible on faceoffs 41%. The love affair they have with him is just weird.

Mancini I actually liked the first few games he played and then he got caved. He wasn't good defensively but he is still very young. He may turn into a solid NHL dman but he may need some time to get there.

Who knows what the 1st round pick turns into but this trade makes the Rangers better today. I believe JT only has a NMC for 2 more years so the Rangers could always trade him down the line if they have too unlike Zibs who has a NMC the entire length of the contract.

Going to be an interesting finish to the season.

We are not gloating. We are rationalizing why it happened. Due to the drama going public? that just increased the pressure on the players and management. On paper the nucks lost the deal as Miller is the best player in the deal. But in reality. Addition by substraction because everyone can forcus on the team now. Also, Miller out? 8mill, Chytil in 4..37--so Vancouver just saved about 3.6$mill

For me this is a win win trade due to it removed distractions

this trade depends on what they do with the 1st, overall it’s about what was expected to happen. Just glad to stop hearing about this rift and move forward.

It turns into 2026 unprotected first rounder next year. Id rather have that in a deeper draft.

Their core is aging even further

Their core ages next season will be

Panarin 34
Trochek 32
Miller 32
Zib 32
Kreider 34

They could all fall off a cliff.
2 of those players will be gone by the start of next season for younger players.
