Confirmed Trade: [NYR/VAN] JT Miller, Erik Brannstrom, Jackson Dorrington for Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini, 2025 1st round pick (top 13 protected)

Chytil is a good get... rather have him over Lafreniere.. not a terrible deal at all. 1st round pick will be key.

*this is Lafreniere's 5th season and he's on pace for 49 points... and he makes close to $8 million a year.
Copium is strong here. Imagine wanting 26 year old Chytil who is one hit away from retiring over a 23 year old player who is barely even near his prime lol.

*this is Chytils 8th season and he’s never scored more than 45 points. Laf’s already hit 57.

I think this is a win for Vancouver. Miller is signed until he's 37 and between his NMC and Locker room issues he wasn't going to have much value. Vancouver was able to take on no bad contracts, got an interesting, albeit injury prone player in Chytil on a decent contract and a potential unprotected 1st round pick in 2026 for a very risky long term contract.
Yeah getting rid of the Miller contract will help accelerate the rebuild that will happen in a few years when Hughes leaves to join his brothers in New Jersey.

I doubt offers got all that high from anyone. Just too many warts on this player, even if he can be great on the ice at times.

Ya, came here to dunk on ‘em but then realized all the circumstances- just glad it’s done, I felt bad for Miller at a point and that’s just silly.

The more I read about Mancini the more I realize that the trade may have finalized over the idea that the Rangers would include him if the Canucks included Dorrington.

Physical for sure, skating is fine if it's just forward or back, not much in the way of puck skills but knows how to hold the stick the right way, IQ will make or break his shot at a legit NHL chance, not sure where that lies to be honest

*Edit* I should say instead professional hockey career instead of NHL chance. No guarantee to make NHL, but could be an AHL player I would imagine, hope the best for him!

Chytil is the better player and on a better contract.

The other guy is signed for 8 million and can’t score 60 points

You guys will like Miller though, he’s better than Panarin

I actually like this return for Vancouver because if there was any bubble playoff team that is going to Duchene themselves by giving Vancouver their 1st, the Rangers rank pretty highly on that scale.

There seems to be a lot of dissension between their players and Drury. He is making some major changes to their group. There is a reasonable chance that they could end up with a top 13 pick this year and then hand Vancouver an unprotected lottery pick.

They were never getting a top end piece for Miller because of his NMC, but they might luck into one for the Rangers Duchene themselves with this trade.

We are not gloating. We are rationalizing why it happened. Due to the drama going public? that just increased the pressure on the players and management. On paper the nucks lost the deal as Miller is the best player in the deal. But in reality. Addition by substraction because everyone can forcus on the team now. Also, Miller out? 8mill, Chytil in 4..37--so Vancouver just saved about 3.6$mill

For me this is a win win trade due to it removed distractions
Heh - not all Oilers fans. Talking about the 2-3 who have like 20 drive-by posts each in this thread. Don’t think your take is far off.

There is about a 3% chance they miss. They've pretty much got poor first half performances from virtually everyone and they're still just 5 points out of a spot.

NYR & Van’s playoff odds were almost identical pre-trade (46-47% they make it, per moneypuck). Interesting to see where the model has them tomorrow.

I noticed the Rantanen trade bumped Carolina up to their SC favorites the next day.

I think with hindsight... this could be one of those trades that is bumped in a year or two with a completely different outlook.

The Rangers HAVE to take that wildcard spot now or that first round pick gets ugly real quick, and Chytil HAS to stay healthy with the Canucks... everything is banking on that.

copium?

so your saying Laf hasn't been a disappointment? and why has he regressed this year?

and don't tell me it's because he plays with Panarin... like that other guy in this thread said (lol)... and don't tell me it's because of a poor powerplay (Laf has 4 pp points this year)...

this is a 1st overall pick who is on pace for 49 points, and has an incredibly risky contract... riveting stuff.
