Confirmed Trade: [NYR/VAN] JT Miller, Erik Brannstrom, Jackson Dorrington for Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini, 2025 1st round pick (top 13 protected)

This was always going to be the type of return when Miller had full control of where he was going to go. Whether it was NY, DET, TB, etc. The team he chose was getting a discount.

Chytil will now get more opportunities, so let’s see where that takes this trade. Mancini could be serviceable later as well, and in 3-4 years the pick will hopefully be an impact player.

The Canucks aren’t done either. Whether that’s making the decision to still trade Pettersson and do a hard retool, we’ll see, but they’re not done. Expect a Top 4 Dman at least, and soon. Probably more Chiarot type than a Byrum, but we’ll see.
How long before Van trades the newly acquired Rangers’ first? Likely used before TDL, imo.

Cleared up cap space for what? There's literally not a single thing yall can do with $8m that makes the team better than with Miller. That's why it's one of the stupidest trades in recent memory

So they can spend $5 Million on Chytil to play 60 games and get 30 points every season?

For the last three seasons Miller has averaged more assists than Chytil has ever scored points.

Furthermore, Miller has basically played the full season every year since 2019. Chytil has yet to play a full season, but people think because he's six years younger there's a brighter future? Buddy missed almost all of last season. I'd bet on Miller playing elite into his 30s over Chytil finishing a season or scoring more than 40 points ever again. Vancouver got GOT.

Mancini could be a solid piece in a year or two. Came out of college a very good defensive player without much offense. Now the offense is blossoming, although he has struggled a bit in his own end as a result.

I love Chytil, I do. He's big, strong, can skate, is skilled. Really fun player to watch when he's on. The downside is every time he takes a hit, you hold your breath. I wouldn't bank on him having a "full" career but if he can somehow keep healthy, he could be a very good 2C if given the opportunity. Minimum he's will be a high-end 3C (again, health concerns aside).

Mancini lol yea we got hosed could have at least got jones or something
mancini is a better prospect than jones and as a rhd is more valuable. IMO mancini’s high end is decent 2nd pairing offensive defenseman. He’ll prob be a tweener who flashes here and there tho. But jones looks like an almost certain tweener or future KHLer.

Pretty brutal. But what are you supposed to do when it's between an almost 32 year old and a 26 year old who's better.

Situation obviously must have been untenable for it to come to this.

The Avs weren't able to match this? Really? That's an awful return for a top 20 player in the NHL.
the aves were probably trying to low ball and JR/Allvin prob said FU and took the L and traded him to NYR.

now colorado are stuck with pull up boi Middlestadt as their #2 C.

Honestly, it’s gonna be fascinating what they do with the first round draft picks.

If they package both of them, the unprotected and the protected one, for a really good young defenceman or centre, at least it would make a little more sense.

There’s a lot of good players on Anaheim for example
