Confirmed Trade: [NYR/VAN] JT Miller, Erik Brannstrom, Jackson Dorrington for Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini, 2025 1st round pick (top 13 protected)

I feel like EP is gonna get cooked if his game doesn't turn around pronto. Seems like kind of a no win situation, you keep the younger more promising player because obviously, but that player is a confidence headcase nightmare who just lost his number one excuse for non-performing.

Curious to see how things go for him if he stays deflated and it turns out all this catering is for nothing.

I don't know if anyone here keeps up with wrestling, but this move kind of reminds me of AEW (WWE's main rival) getting rid of CM Punk because he was an asshole. The problem is, CM Punk was and is the biggest star they ever had, but the owner of the company sided with a few guys in the locker room who hated him. Well, a big chunk of AEW's audience seemed to leave with him and the company is much less popular today.

In this instance, I think the Canucks will be a weaker team, led by softies like Elias Petterson the 1st, who will continue producing at a pathetic pace, and the team will cease to be a contender for the foreseeable future.

I may be wrong here, but Chytil sounds like a slightly higher scoring Podkolzin. Great defensive player who makes smart moves but can't score to save his life. Is that accurate?
Chytil hasn't been able to stay healthy. Just when he gets a good thing going, He gets hurt. In the head. He's used up more lives than a cat. He can't have too many shots left. Seriously, he needs to keep his head up.
No it's not. Mancini was very promising for us. And you get a first rounder? For what? We're f***ing closer to not making the playoffs than making the playoffs. This is a Drury Hail Mary because he's incompetent.

And BTW, the biggest issue with this team is culture and leadership. How the f*** does Miller help with those things? And look at Miller's contract.

This trade doesn't make any sense, except for the fact that Drury is trying his hardest to keep his job.
Part of the problem with the culture in NY is hurt feelings. We could use more attitude in the top 6. I like the deal.

Uh, the team has been shit with Miller. Literally. And yes, you can improve the team with 8mm and a top 20 first + the young 20 goal C you picked up. Also suspect Petey’s play picks up.

I’m not a fan of either team but this was fair value, not like they were winning Cups with Miller, the over reactions here are pretty funny.
Not really true. Chytil will get resigned for at least 5m so you saved 3m. Didn’t realize 25yo is young. No way to look at this trade other than significantly downgrading and just hoping that addition is by subtraction which is basically a way to say the value is shit but let’s pray. A top 20 pick while Hughes Demko and Ep are supposedly in their prime? Unless that pick is traded it is not helpful for the current iteration of the team

What catering? Rutherford put him on notice that he is being shopped and will go if it makes sense for the team.Time is up.

Chytil, Mancini and a 1st isn't the worst return given the circumstances
Agreed. Lindgren is negative value, so they avoid taking him, and the condition on the pick looks much better than what was implied from the previous version of the deal. VAN gets 3M in cap space as well. Could have been far, faaaaar worse :dunno:

What a whiny loser. I had teammates that didn’t like each other, but we all shut up and worked for a common goal, and we weren’t getting paid to play. You’re not forced to talk to the guy. Just play hockey.

Miller has a full NMC and holds all the cards where he wants to go. If he only wanted to go to the NYR, the Canucks are not going to get full value. It's similar to how the Bruins got Taylor Hall for peanuts.

You know, for all the players that have wanted to come to the Rangers and to the Rangers only (MSL, Patrick Kane...), the Rangers always manage to give up more than they should. If ever there were times to take advantage of GMs, it's these.

Not all accurate about Chytil. He’s a dynamic skater and goal scoring center who has a checkered injury history. If he can stay healthy he’s a great 2C still with room to grow.

He's been injured every single season he's played from what I see, and aside from two seasons ago, he's been on a 30-40 point pace each season, including this one. Eleven goals in 41 games is a 22 goal pace, so sure, I guess you can call him a goal-scoring centre. I'd call him a pathetic return for a point-per-game player who only last season scored 100 points and who is also on a good contract given how high the cap will be going up...

And he's been in the league for 8 seasons and is 25. Not exactly a blue-chip prospect.

And the Rangers aren't a basement team, especially after this move, so the 1st rounder isn't amazing. The other prospect sounds completely insignificant.

Imagine trading Miller and turning around and blowing $5m on Chytil. Yikes

If the $11m player can't play well because someone is a big meanie, then he's not gunna be leading a team anywhere.

The young C is somehow even softer than EP.

And no, there's literally no better use of $8m than Miller (besides the obvious collection of high end ELC players). Anything else you do with that money is a downgrade. Full stop
Amazing that a guy that desirable for his cap hit had such poor value.

Listen, I get it, he is an amazing player. But he is one of a small handful of players that doesn’t always play well with others. That big meanie you reference had to take tome away from the team this year. He has issues, which significantly diminishes his value. In that context, the trade us fair value. And again, the team with him has been shit this year, they aren’t a contender, won’t be next year, so a futures package plus cap space is not that bad a deal.

How many players were on Miller's side in this pissing match and are they happy he is gone and Petey stays?

The current iteration of the team is in a wildcard spot. And if 25 isn’t young, then 32 is practically ancient.
