He was a microstat darling for one season in. 22-23. Every other season has been bad to terrible. Really bad at exiting the defensive zone. Bad in the offensive zone. Good at defending the blue line. I saw more promising data from Borgen before he was acquired.
Could of picked one up off waivers that was just as bad as Soucy for freeA low price considering scarcity of defensemen available and the usual trade deadline premium. I'm curious about any past Borgen and Soucy have together, even if they weren't a permanent pair. Don't know, don't remember.
The draft pick being acquired and flipped makes me wonder if there's a defenseman being flipped (de Haan?) or if Jones is earmarked for a trade soon. I don't see a clear vision of Drury's intended depth chart yet.
And Sam will mispronounce him as Carson Suzuki on his first shift.“Sam he’s a big man. Good hands and tough and plays the game right”
Not for nothing teams that win cups these days don’t have guys like jones on the back end. Maybe one that size but def not two.I don't think Jones is going anywhere until Fox returns. Seems we can ice 1 small offensive guy but not zero and certainly not 2, God forbid.
We had one for years, his name was Ryan LindgrenRangers cornering the market on “guys who need to play on the bottom pair to succeed” lol
Fingers crossed that it’s neither but it’s going to be Soucy-Fox.Fingers crossed that the plan is Miller-Fox, Soucy-Borgen and not Soucy-Fox
This has been a problem. Kam is the obvious answer to move up with Soucy being the #2, but this would require KAM to be capable of it and the coaches to do it.????? Fox
KAM Borgen
Soucy Schneider
Vaak
Big problem is the ?????
Plus Fox would need to be back healthy...any updates on his healing progress ?This has been a problem. Kam is the obvious answer to move up with Soucy being the #2, but this would require KAM to be capable of it and the coaches to do it.
Borgen played with Oleksiak in Seattle, just to be clear in here
Have watched pretty much every Canucks game this year, thanks for asking. How many of you have actually watched him play extensively?
Yeah, that’s what I thought.
Soucy is a 4-5 defenseman with some bite. This is far and away been his worst season. Worth the dice roll and with a year to run, he gives Drury some inventory under contract that could facilitate other moves.nothing to get too excited or distressed about.
It’s VCR in CanadaWhy does Friedman always use VCR instead of VAN like everyone else in the world?
Yup.If they're going with Soucy-Borgen, that should be your third pair.
I'm not Canadian, so I don't know. In what context? Maybe the city usually? But I only recall ever seeing the Vancouver Canucks abbreviated as VAN, even in Canadian media. It’s VCR in Canada
I have no idea why, maybe there’s something unique about him defensively that can’t be quantified by the numbers we have. On the other hand he’s terrible offensively to the point where his relGF% has been in the toilet with Vancouver. Am I supposed to celebrate that this is the guy who is likely going to be Fox’s partner the rest of this season and next season? Another defenseman who is completely deficient in transition and in the offensive zone playing on the top pair? You could make the same argument for Lindgren that you are making for Soucy and Lindgren was actually plying top pairing minutes. Up until this season Lindgren’s numbers were just as good defensively in both GA/60 and xGA/60. Ironically both are having terrible seasons this year. Actually Lindgren is having a much better season defensively according to xGA/60 relative to teammates. Why didn’t we just keep Lindgren? All I want is the answer to one question. If he is so bad, why are the GA with him on the ice consistently very low? For reference, since the start of his career, among dmen with 590+ mins played in each season here is how he ranks in GA (most recent season first):
- 85 / 183
- 13 / 203
- 20 / 198
- 103 / 198
- 7 / 159
- 6 / 179
Season 1 is with a tandem of Stalock/Dubnyk (~.900 save percentage)
Season 2 is with Talbot/Kahkonen
Seasons 3 and 4 there are with .890 save percentage Grubauer as his starting goalie.
Last year mostly Demko and this year Lankinen.
Not like he's been playing behind Vezina winners. So why is this the case? Is he lucky every year and randomly gets great goaltending when he's on the ice? Is he only used against 3rd and 4th liners? But if that's so (and I'm told QoC is not that important) how come there aren't many dmen with that kind of usage that put up those results?
Is it more likely that he's been lucky 6 years straight (4 of which were top 20 seasons) or that defensive stats/models are really not all that great at this point in time?
Or perhaps Sushi…would make Mika happy. And Sam will mispronounce him as Carson Suzuki on his first shift.
He’s re-signing with LA most likely. Elliotte said it on his last podcast.Yup.
Gavrikov-Fox
Miller-Schneider
Soucy-Borgen
Going into next year. I'm going to try and will Gavrikov to the Rangers nonstop until it happens July 1st.
Jones and CDH will be gone before next season starts. At worse he’s a 7D at best he’ll be on the third pairing as needed. Now we don’t need to go overpay in July for an extra Dman. This blows. Burned a draft pick for nothing.
Worse yet, when everyone's healthy, they'll sit CDH who is better at everything.
