Confirmed with Link: NYR/VAN: Carson Soucy for 3rd Round Pick from VGK trade

A low price considering scarcity of defensemen available and the usual premium. I'm curious about past Borgen and Soucy have together, even if they weren't a permanent pair. Don't know, don't remember.
Per NST: Pretty much a breakeven pair that had average usage.

If they want to run that pair, they could, allow Miller-Fox to be used again.

I'd play him with Schneider if all things remain the same, but I think we could see Soucy-Fox. It's an upgrade on Lindgren, that's for sure.

He was very good for the Canucks last season, especially in the playoffs.

Name me one player having a good year in Vancouver this year?

He's your Ryan Lindgren replacement next year at $1.25M cheaper

Lindgren, Vesey, Reilly Smith for Parssinen, Brisson, Soucy, 2nd + 4th is good business by Drury.
I mean I guess?

like he’s not a top pairing defensemen, so there’s still a hole to be filled there. He’s at the point where he’s best as a bottom pairing guy. Which Vaakananen or someone else can do cheaper.

so great we’re in the same spot of overpaying for a bottom pairing LD lol

I mean they scooped up Urho Vaakanainen whose previous claim to fame was playing in 68 games for one of the worst teams in the league, and he has been a decent depth addition. They pull a struggling Will Borgen from a bad Seattle team and he has proven his worth. Maybe, just maybe, some of the new professional scouting infrastructure Drury has implemented is actually good at identifying misused or "change of scenery" defenseman.

In any event it's a move to address the fringes of the roster. The substantial moves will come in the summer (barring some Kreider trade).

Scouting report for those interested:

Soucy has been pretty up and down his entire career, one good year one bad year, which is why no team he's been with so far has been in love with him.

Last season he was very good pretty much all year performing like a solid #4, and this season he's been replacement level at best. So I'd say overall he's your average bottom-pairing defensive D-man.

Large but not physical or mean enough for his size. If he can keep his game quiet and simple he can put together stretches of good hockey.

Not great in terms of moving or skating the puck out and not much offense to speak of.
So basically Marek Malik?

Soucy played well with Borgen in Seattle. I wonder if they see the issues he’s had in Vancouver as system based like Borgen in Seattle who has been good in NY
As if that will get better with Lavi the Tugboat’s musical chairs defensive zone scheme

I shouldnt be shocked at the anger at this. The same complaints I heard about Vaakanainen and Borgen. We shall see. I trust the Rangers pro scouting department.
Yeah I mean I understand those that don't like the trade on principle. That's fine.

But there's a whole bunch of people in here acting like babies who don't know a goddamn thing about Carson Soucy. This is a guy who has spent his whole career in Minnesota and on the West Coast and 90% of people on our board literally know nothing about him, and yet they'll piss and moan because someone on Twitter said he's shit and posted a chart. Like you said, same thing we went through with Borgen.

I know some people actually do know the player and I'm not discounting that, but I think we all understand at this point that most people on sports message boards don't know a f***ing thing about whatever their current outrage is.

Maybe I'll like him better when I see him with the Rangers like I did with Borgen but this reeks of "glued to Adam Fox whether it works or not."

It's also a replacement for de Haan for literally no reason.

If Soucy's in the top four, we're in trouble. If he's on the bottom pair, de Haan can do his job better, cheaper, and he was already here.

He’s not going to be.

If someone wants to sell me on the rebound factor, fine. I can buy that there is bounce back potential for him in a third pair role.

That isn’t happening with this staff. That won’t happen if he’s playing next to Fox either and is not a long term or even an adequate one. Lavi already has him
Penciled in next to Fox.
