I hate trading away two premium picks. The Rangers have traded away too many draft choices in the last few years.

That said, replacing Callahan with MSL significantly upgrades the current team and gives the Rangers a heck of a chance to go deep in the playoffs this year.

This is (and has been) a win now team for the last few years. Worry about next year, next year.

If we can recoup a pick in another trade it looks better still.

Nash - Richards - St. Louis

Or

Kreider - Richards - St. Louis
Zucc - Stepan - Nash

Are nice line combos. St. Louis probably makes Richie better.

Trade call now done. St Louis trade to NYR is official. #Tradecentre

Conflicted emotions on this day in Rangers history.

**** you Sather. ****ing terrible. I wouldn't be as mad if it was a 14' 1st. Horrific overpayment, typical dark ages NYR move

Guys Im not really wild about the trade as a bolts fan. Marty is a playmaking machine. Just look at his PPG playing with rookies pretty much the whole year.

I am really going to miss MSL. You guys are really going to enjoy watching him.

Oh good, it's the 1st in the awesome draft year and the 2nd in the mediocre one.

We are not winning ANYTHING with St. Louis, people. So, all we've done is perpetuate the mediocrity - and thrown away two pieces that might have helped to actually, eventually get to true contender status in the process.

Oh, and just really upped the odds that we might actually retain Brad Richards. All of you dancing in the streets right now are aware of that fact, right. Are you going to be hypocrites and scream and rant at Sather when that happens? Or are you signed up and actually okay with all the ramifications of this transaction?

Terrible, terrible, terrible deal.

All draft picks are guarantees....its the end of the world

I like this trade

Like I say, if we get a 2nd for Boyle this year and a 2015 first for Staal next year, we'll be at peg one.

Um, we'll be down a 4th line center and a top pair dman. How the hell does that put us at peg one? We gave what amounts to 2 firsts and 2 seconds for a soon to be 39 year old player. There's absolutely no sense in that, no matter how you try to spin it.

We just got one of the top 15 offensive players in the league, so that has to count for something.

I can't get irate about a few high picks after the Clowe incident.

So because we wasted picks on Clowe, it's okay to waste the on MSL?

This is exactly how I feel.

Before it broke, lots of talk about how badly they wanted Callahan to remain in the room. Lots of shock that it appears to be happening.

This deal was so wrong for both sides.
Sather giving away some more of the future for a guy in his twilight.
Yzerman making his team worse in the middle of a decent playoff push.
Having said that St. Louis has been my favorite hockey player outside the Rangers organization for a long time. Pumped to have him on the team.

This may be the dumbest move in a long list of dumb moves by this organization.

Agree.

Nah. It's a very solid move.

Agree to disagree.

One of the worst in our history.

We're a ****ing circus. A joke. St. Louis demands a trade here and we have to give up an arm, leg, and kidney for a 38 year old player who's a UFA after next year.

Henrik signed to win a cup, this gives them a fighting chance. They are going to score a ton more

Also if Cally resigns Rangers get a pick back

which pick? Either one is great. I'd love to see Callahan soften his demands and sign there.... if Callahan wants a fighting chance at winning, Tampa is a good place for him to do it playing along side Bishop, Stammer, etc.

No. What we will see is another aging star coming to retirement land nyc. I wont enjoy that
