What if he had of received an Offer Sheet for 250,000 more ? Do you think we would have walked ? Have we never overpaid for an RFA before ?Not for a RFA.
Some of you are so harsh. ADA gambled and took his stand for a chance that the Rangers would give in and increase their offer. His stand essentially cost him one preseason game. In a greater scheme of things it’s completely irrelevant. My position was that as long as he was available for the first regular season game - it was fine. So absolutely no issues to me that he signed his contract today.
I'm well aware of how negotiations work. But looking at what he ultimately got, it's still curious.
I'm not a huge fan of either player. ADA is a more talented player. Better? I don't know. I will say that when Avery was right, he was amazingly effective and his impact rubbed off on the team for the positive.

I don't know. My point is, sure, they have overpaid for UFAs, but I can't recall a RFA signing where they overpaid. What if he had of received an Offer Sheet for 250,000 more ? Do you think we would have walked ?
I honestly do think they would have let him go.What if he had of received an Offer Sheet for 250,000 more ? Do you think we would have walked ? Have we never overpaid for an RFA before ?
We disagree on Avery. He was good for a very short time and was far more important to some fans than to the overall product, especially for any extended period.
He has some sort of personality problem that cut his NHL career short and has continued to haunt him afterwards.
He had talent. He wasted it.
He gambled when the Rangers were showing a high pair suited and he had an off-suit 2 and 5

The sad thing is that it's almost too easy to forget that he was once a player on the cusp of carving out a niche where he could also pop in 20 goals and 50 points on an annual basis.
Obviously everyone remembers the antics, but he was not slouch as a player either.
How could they give in when it was mathematically impossible?
Brady Skjei ?

Huh? $1.2-$1.4 was mathematically impossible?
