I didn't say claiming him off waivers isn't good, I said he's probably not a good player like how I don't consider Daniel Sprong a "good" player.

An offense-only guy needs to be producing more than 40 points with PP time to be someone I'd call a "good" player. Even in his good year where he had 28 points in 56 game, pretty much half of his production (8 goals and 12 points) were PP points.
I'd also like to point out the King's have a bottom 1/3rd PP currently.

A little surprising that LA put him on waivers, when he was almost certain to be claimed, feels like they could have gotten *something* for him if they were going to cut bait.. and this late in the year it's pretty easy to just keep him around for the remainder which will make all rights for him permanently gone.

There is more to hockey than stats.

Kaliyev doesn't have the mentality to succeed. It haunted him his the draft and it's why nobody was willing to give a 5th for him at this years draft.

He quit on his team last year, and that is a worse sin than most. He doesn't want to consistently put in the work and he doesn't accept criticism well. Its hilarious that a team in such dire culture straits would be the one to put in a claim.

What's another headcase in NY?

Now Drury can trade Laf+ for Miller.
Personally I think all this EP JT drama, is complete media spun bullshit but even if it isn't any return would have to include a Centre as part of a bigger package.

This has been an absolute gut punch of a season where everything has gone wrong yet we are in a playoff spot. barring any more injuries we are not far off from being fully healthy, likely gonna improve the Dcorp with at least one trade along with Willander signing and likely already better than Juulson or any other option from Abby.

I'm confident the team will start winning a lot more just based off the top end talent, goaltending and it's forward depth but if I'm being honest Im starting to wonder if we wouldn't win more convincingly under a different system?
I appreciate the fact we can win boring low event hockey but our forwards have become so boring and 2010ish Minnesota wild Esq. It's depressing.

This is what the waivers are for, Kaliyev needed a fresh start and maybe the Rangers find something in him.

He was a goal scoring machine in juniors and had a decent start to his pro career as well. Last couple years went off rails with the Kings but there's definitely something there.

I'd like this more if this was in camp. But with his lack of games lately, and the Rangers needing every point they can get, there's probably not much of a leash to get him going.

He was benched/banished for half of that.
And in the time that he actually played he was at best slightly above average despite playing almost 2 minutes a game on the powerplay and getting pretty favorable deployments. There certainly could still be something there but at the same time there's been enough a sample size that he's not an "I can't believe he's on waivers" guy.
