Not surprising, Kaliyev was an obvious guy as a "throw shit at the wall and see what sticks" waiver claim.
It's just more wild to me that the Rangers stink so much that they're sitting 7th in the waiver claim priority list.

Exactly what the Rangers needed was another offensive winger with compete concerns that probably needs powerplay time and good deployments to get the most out of!

Yes, and the only thing that's transpired since is him getting dicked around by the Kings.
Much like Spence getting 28 minutes then getting sent to the AHL
Or like Clarke being the best player on the ice for 9 games and then getting sent down to the AHL to NOT PLAY for an entire month before going back to juniors
Or Byfield not even being used in 3v3 or PP so they can double shift Fiala
I can go on for days
Kaliyev obviously needs 'conditions' to work/be right but there's a skilled player in there. His biggest 'problem' with the org was being probably the only kid with balls enough to ask for a trade, that's when he got Robidas Islanded.
From the west coast, to the east coast, gotta gotta....er...wait.... It's the other way around. Dammit. Would have been perfect. Ah well. Go Team Go.

A guy who needs 'conditions' to work with an upside of 0.5 PPG isn't what I'd call a "good" player.
Could he be a good player? I guess, there is some offensive talent there. But he kinda can't skate, is pretty bad defensively and doesn't really offer anything outside of his offense. He's more likely in that Daniel Sprong territory of players, who I also wouldn't call a "good" player.

I guess we'll just agree to disagree that potentially picking up a 40 point player on waivers is good, especially when much of that production came from a depth slot and limited minutes.

I didn't say claiming him off waivers isn't good, I said he's probably not a good player like how I don't consider Daniel Sprong a "good" player.
An offense-only guy needs to be producing more than 40 points with PP time to be someone I'd call a "good" player. Even in his good year where he had 28 points in 56 game, pretty much half of his production (8 goals and 12 points) were PP points.
