Seems like a lot, but it's not really in the long term.

He had like no leverage though, which is why this is surprising.
I guess New York wanted him to appear as a cachet player for them, though, and didn't mind paying him a bit extra to see if some extra confidence translated to better performance/leadership.

A bit of an overpayment, IMO. Based on his play I would have thought $7M/year would be fair for both sides. However, a soon to be UFA status probably upped the $$$.

I don't know that seems like a lot of money for a guy that presumably only wanted to play in NY. Add in the fact that the Rangers had to give up a 1st and Pionk just to get him, not sure this was even a good move in a vacuum, let alone when you consider the Rangers have a ton of deadweight still on their back end they need to unload.

A #20 and Pionk is a home run. Pionk is barely NHL caliber. I didn't even want Trouba bc I thought he'd cost a lot more. This is a fair contract for age 25-32 years. It's not a steal, but it's certainly not bad - give me a break. By the time his deals up he'll probably barely be in the top 25 highest paid defensemen and NYR is not buying those mid-late 30's years...

This is way off. His long time rumored preference was Detroit. Rags were aggressive and it paid off for them.

Gorton waiting until the Lucic and Neal trade drops is an expert GM move

Didn't Myers just get 6x5 as a lesser player at 29? I'll take Trouba - thanks.

I don't even love Trouba, but its a fair deal.

Don’t let quantitative data get in the way of reason. Trouba doesn’t drive play well at all. What exactly makes him more than a 2nd pair guy?

Post it a few more times, maybe then people will start caring more about 50% of your analysis coming from penalty minutes. Because that is definitely what I look for when evaluating a defenseman

When did I say the Myers deal was good? I consider it worse than Troubas deal, but not terrible either. Slightly more of an overpay for Myers.

I wonder what this means for Provorov. Obviously a ceiling. Hopefully in the 6s for 6 years.

How is NY over the Cap? I know Panarin but they haven’t even played a game since their rebuild ended.

Lol, you're kidding right? Pionk was borderline trash last year and the odds that 1st becomes anywhere close to Trouba is slim.

He currently has the 5th highest cap hit among Dmen:

I like that he's youngish but this is hardly a slam dunk.

I think adding Panarin and Trouba will be huge for NYR going forward. They have brought in a bunch of good young players too. They are my surprise playoff team this year.
