I wanted Trouba as our #2 to Rielly. He's a very steady Dman. Good signing for the Rags. Just locked up a very good #2 for a long time!
'No one questions his greatness when healthy. I think most are just concerned about being on the ice.
I don't know that seems like a lot of money for a guy that presumably only wanted to play in NY. Add in the fact that the Rangers had to give up a 1st and Pionk just to get him, not sure this was even a good move in a vacuum, let alone when you consider the Rangers have a ton of deadweight still on their back end they need to unload.

correctI believe we bought out 6 years of UFA, is that right?
A bit of an overpayment, IMO. Based on his play I would have thought $7M/year would be fair for both sides. However, a soon to be UFA status probably upped the $$$.
He essentially told Winnipeg he would only consider negotiating with NYR. It had to do with where his girlfriend wanted to live and do her residency, which wasn't settled until recently. This is way off. His long time rumored preference was Detroit. Rags were aggressive and it paid off for them.
Are we comparing recent massive surgery to say getting bumped hard into the boards?'
Trouba has missed more games then Karlsson
Don’t let quantitative data get in the way of reason. Trouba doesn’t drive play well at all. What exactly makes him more than a 2nd pair guy?
When did I say the Myers deal was good? I consider it worse than Troubas deal, but not terrible either. Slightly more of an overpay for Myers.Didn't Myers just get 6x5 as a lesser player at 29? I'll take Trouba - thanks.
I don't even love Trouba, but its a fair deal.
Karlsson is clearly on the decline.'

Lol, you're kidding right? Pionk was borderline trash last year and the odds that 1st becomes anywhere close to Trouba is slim.I don't know that seems like a lot of money for a guy that presumably only wanted to play in NY. A #20 and Pionk is a home run. Pionk is barely NHL caliber. I didn't even want Trouba bc I thought he'd cost a lot more. This is a fair contract for age 25-32 years. It's not a steal, but it's certainly not bad - give me a break. By the time his deals up he'll probably barely be in the top 25 highest paid defensemen and NYR is not buying those mid-late 30's years...
5th highest paid defenseman in the NHL lol
Won't be 5th in a matter of a year or two with salaries going up big-time. I'd also rather give this deal to a 25 year old who is still improving every season versus someone closer to 30.He currently has the 5th highest cap hit among Dmen:

I like that he's youngish but this is hardly a slam dunk.
Thanks, our rebuild is going just fine.Lmao good luck with that.
