Man oh man some people are WAY too hard on dmen. He is a fantastic defender and that contract will be more and more worth it as the cap continues to rise. Barring a slew of injuries, this is a good deal for the Rangers

He's over paid but we all thought he'd get 7.5. Not too out of line and he will only be #5 for a limited time.

No one questions his greatness when healthy. I think most are just concerned about being on the ice.

Trouba did play top competition on Winnipeg, and was arguably their best offensive dman at 5v5. Plus his possession numbers were towards the top. I think he can fill the role of top pairing dman, although I wouldn't say he excels at it

I think everyone following the situation pretty much expected a contract like this. It's still not without risk for the Rangers though.

Find a way to offload Staal, Smith, Shattenkirk and/or Namestnikov. Possibly trade Kreider.
