They account for his years dominating in the KHL into his “sample size”

Doesn't this walk straight to UFA? Weird term for a goalie who looks like he has it all

He's now the 11th highest paid goalie, and will be surpassed over the years as others get signed. So the Rangers will have their franchise goalie for 4 years, at around the median salary NHL starters.

I suspect that's what the player wanted. Hit UFA in what you expect is a much better cap situation.

I'm not saying he won't live up to this contract. I'm saying it's not a given that his next contract will be way more.

That's a possibility. It's also possible it's way more. The good part is that if it's not and he stays, it benefits the Rangers. If he ends up being worth near double and the Rangers move on, it's an easier decision at that point.

Will be interesting to see what happens with Sorokin like you said though. These two are going to be tied together for their entire careers.

good deal for the rangers. though I think they should have traded Georgiev first. this kinda tanks his value

They will regret not locking him up long term. Drury strikes again, Goodrow gets 2 more years than Shesterkin. Clown world

depends on what the player would go for

I called 6 yrs at bet 5.5 and 6
was willing to go a bit higher for the extra term

but this guy now has taste of NHL, sees handwriting on the wall, and prob is banking on himself to jump to 7+ on his next deal.

can't be too p'o-ed on this one

No offense but that makes no sense.

If you think he's that good then this deal will only get better with age. Although goalies can be a crapshoot, there's no reason to think that the first years of this deal will be better than the last ones.

Take a side. Any side.

The point is that it will look good until the contract expires. If you're paying him big dollars, why not get more term? 4 years is an awkward number that walks him into UFA at 29. If he ends up becoming an elite (top 10 positionally) goaltender then you lose him for nothing, or you sign a 29 year old to what will likely be his Bobrovsky/Price/Vasilevsky contract.

He has been dominant in KHL for multiple years, and excellent in his first year in the NHL, don’t see how this is a bad deal.

Almost anything would have taken him straight to RFA. He's born in 95.

4 year deal seems a bit short, but I don't know the Rangers' cap situation, if they expect a changing of the guard around that time. AAV is fine. It's starter money.
