probably nobody which means he needs to retire, we would probably need to beg Seattle to take him in the expansion draft.

Because of him we likely need to trade Georgiev soon to make room for Shestyorkin

Lundqvist is a UFA the same season as the expansion draft and won't require protection. Shestyorkin will be exempt by virtue of being a second year pro. This won't affect Georgiev.

Georgiev sucked to begin both of his NA seasons, to the point they went out and got another goalie for Hartford (and Georgiev didn’t become the starter again until Mazanec got hurt) in the first one, and they rode Hank more than they wanted to this past season. Hank’s not going to be traded this this year to hand the team to two kids who can still go to Hartford unless he wants to be, and everything’s pointing to him wanting to stay

I think Hank truly wants to stay. I think Hank as a healthy scratch has a different view of the world. We will see. Don't make moves she, Shesty hasn't even laced a skate up in North America yet. One injury makes this problem a solution.

E know what Georgiev can do in the NHL. KHL numbers are way over inflated because of the talent and rink size. Look it up. I would take G or S right now and get rid of L.
Georgiev was also horrendous in the NHL at the start of this year. And Igor hasn’t played a single game.

Let them all compete and the best players sort out. I don’t think it’s set that hank is anything but number 1 of this group now, let alone being number 3.

I could really see St Louis being very interested in Hank. Jake Allen has 2 years left @ $4.35m per season. I'm sure St Louis would like to off-load that deal. Perhaps the Rangers and the Blue work on a Hank for Allen + deal. Binnington can play 30-35 games a year to spell Hank until the playoffs.

I dont see why STL would do that. Binnington appears to be the future. Why pay $8 million plus for Hank when they think Binnington can be as productive, if not more? Same could even be said for Allen to Hank. Allen at $4 million less for the next two years makes more sense for them.

I also dont think it makes sense to take on a veteran goalie at $4 million if Shesty shows he can be the guy. They will just have Hank split time with Shesty imo.

This will work itself out

Why does he deserve whatever he wishes. It is about the team. Babe Ruth was traded, Wayne Gretzky was traded, etc. Team comes first. To let go 23 year old goalie Georgiev who has shown such potential would be a disaster so that Lundqvist feels respected. Nope, Georgiev on another team would be a star.
Wayne Gretzky wasn't traded because the team comes first, it's laughable to imply that it was what was best for the team. He was traded because the Edmonton owner was a cheapskate. Traded isn't even the right word, sold is more appropriate.

And saying Georgie would be a star on another team, this type of mindset is how we end up judging players unfairly. Calm your hype train down. As recently as January he was rocking 1980s goalie numbers with GAA over 4 and SV% under .860. He struggled mightily in the early part of the season and yeah, he looked great as the season wore on and it's very encouraging. But a star? Please. Calm down. If that's what you're expecting now based on a good 5 weeks from the kid, great progress and a terrific 5 weeks no doubt but still it was a small sample, you're just setting him up for failure.

All this talk about forcing a Lundqvist trade and this and that, it's all just asinine. We have a good young goalie kid, an aging legend and another unproven in North America but lots of potential kid coming in. We don't have to move anyone.

And not for nothing, how often have we seen a goalie have one or two good years and then turn back into a pumpkin? Pump. The. Brakes. You spend all summer thinking Georgiev is the next Lundqvist and then he comes out of the gate looking like he did early last season and then what? He's still just a 23 year old goalie with only 43 games of experience who will rightfully still experience growing pains but because you spent the whole summer thinking he's a star already, now you're not giving him that time to grow and now you're turning on him.

I think everyone here, even if you think you don't like him, has been beyond spoiled by having Lundqvist as the goalie for the last 15 years and just assume that whoever takes over next is going to be more of the same. It was not common to have a goalie be a legit top 5 goalie every season for 13 straight seasons.

I think he wants to stay too and the Rangers will have to take the initiative if they want to move on from him.

i really believe this will be his last real season.

the season after that, hell likely be the back up to shesty and it will be a season long swan song for lundy with many goodbyes and tributes thru out the league. as it should be.

hell announce hes done after this coming season. his final season hell go out on top albeit as a backup/part time starter. hell assume the role of mentor and teacher.

he wont linger and bounce around like fatso did with the devils and blues. hank knows when to say when.

i want him to stay until he retires. his last season will be 20-21 about the time this team takes the next step with shestyorkin assuming the title of prince igor.

and hank will go out on top like the true warrior that he is and pass the baton to his protege.

That contract clause allowing Shest to return to Russia has changed my mind. I don't agree with it but I wouldn't be surprised to see Georgi dealt at the draft to try to move up from 22.

Does it really matter? Aside from the PP and face-offs, wingers are all over the place during the play anyway

Was just curious if you felt a player was noticeably better playing on one wing or another. Zucc had played LW and RW earlier in his career and I always felt he looked and played better on the right side.

we know Hank wants to stay.
but i could also foresee a disappointed '19 playoff team,
which needs to upgrade (or replace) in Goal,
asking to talk to him -
CBJ, Carolina, Calgary, SJ ...

And if Shesty flops, what then? I don't think Georgiev gets dealt until Shesty proves himself in the NHL, at the earliest.

I remember in the old days my coaches used to always try to keep the winger on their side of the ice unless it was to retrieve the puck and you switched positions with the other winger. They tried to keep you in some kind of triangle during puck possession or pursuit. Hockey is a little more creative these days.

Anyway, you're right. Wingers can play either side. When watching KK, you'll see him play LW and RW in the same shift. He's all over the place.

Personally, I preferred playing the off-wing as I loved to be able to move to the center of the ice with my natural shot. It's easier on forwards than defensemen to play the off wing.

I've been wondering about this as well.

Hasn't that been answered already?

It's mainly because of a potential NHL lock-out. Allows the Russian kids get to go home and play in the KHL.

European clause on Shestyorkin’s contract isn’t a big deal

All these euro kids get them

If he’s true to his word, he’ll go to Hartford. I can’t imagine him jumping ship, he idolizes Hank
