I have no idea. The Rangers will have a live feed on their website. When the Rangers had no prospects, they would stream scrimmages. There is no telling what they will do now when they have legitimate players.

IMO, the Rangers will go all out to really advertise and show off the prospects this season and Prospect camp (meaning they will have more than one crappy camera in the corner of the ice). They have been hyping the prospects quite a bit to show fans we have a good future and they want to continue selling tickets in the rebuild.

If Rykov remains for 1 year it's not a big deal...last year was his breakout year, another one wouldn't hurt.

If he's signing a multi year deal though there's almost certainly a risk of getting passed by. Miller will be in the competition by then, Hajek could be established in the lineup, Lindgren could still be hanging around and who knows who else the Rangers might bring in. It's a risk for the player (if he wants to play in the NHL) to spend too much time in a different league and have their NHL team turn to other prospects.

The crazy thing to me is that Shesterkin even became a Ranger.

With our top pick in '14, we take G Brandon Halverson in the 2nd Round and then turn around and take another G in Shesterkin in the 4th round.

We had Lundqvist coming off the Stanley Cup finals and a freshly signed 7 year contract.

I really wonder just how many teams, if any, have drafted two goaltenders within the first 4 rounds of the same draft within the last decade or two.

EDIT: One example that I quickly found was Varlamov at #23 and Neuvirth at #34 in 2006. Two goalies in the first two rounds for Washington. Guess they were really desperate for a #1.

We always were like WTF when they drafted so many goalies but hey if this kid sticks then it worked

They just took a goalie in the 2nd round last year too lol........but again if he becomes a back up then it's fine

Fine with Rykov staying another season. If he doesn’t get signed by next offseason, I’ll start to worry.

I love Benoit Allaire but the goalies we have drafted high have a pretty terrible track record. Antoine LaFleur. Brandon Halverson. Can go back even further to Al Montoya. Blackburn we'll never know because of injury (and the fact the Rangers rushed him to the NHL as an 18-year-0ld).

It'll be 5 years before we know what we have in Lindblom so here's hoping he'll be ready to battle for Shesterkin's backup by then :)

Allaire wasn't around when they drafted Blackburn as far as I can recall. I think he came in with Tom Renney after the lockout

Yea, more or less just saying when we've drafted goalies relatively high it hasn't panned out but have gotten lucky in the late rounds/undrafted UFA signings. Goaltending development in a nut shell.

The important asset in the Grabner trade was the 2nd round pick. Rykov was a nice throw in. Some potential there but there were always questions of whether he'd come over. If he does and becomes something, that'd be fantastic. But the longer he stays over in the KHL the less chance we see him here, IMO.

Yeah, agree that I'm not a huge fan of taking goalies high unless they're clear cut top prospects already, and even then...

Rangers best luck with goalies since Lundqvst has been signing free agents like Talbot and Georgiev and acquiring guys like Raanta

If they get a good #1 out of Georgiev or Shesterkin then, well, good. Let's keep this rolling.

Traverse City is going to be scorched earth by the time it's over. Hope they televise it properly this year.

I feel like most teams in the NHL are against drafting goalies high. The Rangers opinion seems to have been "stockpile goalies because you don't know who is going to work out." It seems frustrating at the time, but drafting goalies is a crapshoot, and it seems to me almost every successful team has had a goalie emerge from their own system.

I don't mind that they carry on drafting goalies. We have to remember that sometimes they just don't make it, even when they look good very close to their NHL debuts. Corey Hirsch and Johan Holmqvist looked like potential superstars until almost the point they were about to join the Rangers, and then there are freak events like Dan Blackburn's injury -- I always thought he looked like a potential very good #1 eventually.

gotta disagree, TCG,
i don't see NYR making any kind of extra* big deal to the public about Prospect camp,
that is so the opposite of the purpose and benefit of the week
and that has never been NYR's approach, for either Prospect Camp, or Rookie Camp/TC

the hard core fans know whats happening when,
the casual fans wont care in late June

I could see them promoting the preseason games (tickets and TV) more than in the past, building interest for the imminent season by hyping the next gen talent

* i do expect the usual tweets and website videos

In fairness, Allaire will not make a bad goalie good.

He will help make good goalies better.

The talent has to be there.

We have heard rumblings that the Rangers MAY be buying out one of their d-men. Say it's Smith. If you're Rykov, wouldn't you want to wait to see if that indeed did occur to open up a LD spot for a young player before deciding to leave the KHL? That wouldn't happen for a little while. But that defense would be:

Staal-ADA
Skjei-Shattenkirk
_____-Pionk/Fox

That leaves that spot open for Hajek, Lindgren or Rykov and perhaps with a spot open Rykov seriously considers coming over.

*insert lockout*

Is a lockout threat really that likely? I know back in 2004 it was, everyone knew it was coming a season before, and the half season lockout there was a lot of chatter the season before.. But i haven't heard much worry about this one...good sign right?

I still hate the Lindbom pick from last year (based on value)...but, there could be a possibility whereby we end up with Lindbom backing up Shesty three seasons from now after Hank retires.

Great minds think alike, I did this a few weeks back:

April 9th
"In the last 12 years only two teams have taken goalies in back-to-back years with a first or second pick, one of those teams the Caps did it twice picking goalies in the first and/or second round."

Rykov staying makes sense. He'll want to come over in a year he has a great chance of making the roster. He should really sign a 1 year contract so he can come over next summer. If he waits two years, he's for sure going head to head against K'Andre for a roster spot and I'm not sure that will end up going so well for him. If he waits 3 years, he'll be 25 and i guess that still works but while the KHL may be the 2nd best league after the NHL and ahead of the AHL, I don't see him developing to his full potential out there not playing on NHL ice.
