I'm sure it's been mentioned in the 7 pages I haven't read yet but the Athletic just released an article basically saying (1) Dolan was impatient with the rebuild and (2) Drury is considered a rising star and the team (Dolan) doesn't want to lose him.

This would be both terrible news that Dolan is meddling with a successful rebuild but good news that apparently he's not seizing control but instead turning it over to someone who is at least well respected league wide.
If it's true that Dolan is being impatient, and no reason not to believe that's the case, it makes total sense why he fired Gorton and JD. All JD did this past offseason was preach patience. Clearly there was a divergence in opinion on just how quickly this team is and should be competing. That's not going to work over the long term.

Gorton was, in my opinion (and I'm probably in the minority on this), overrated as the GM.

He lucked into Kakko and Lafreniere, and Fox and Panarin both wanted to come to the Rangers anyway. He made some bad trades, poor draft selections, and questionable signings. I think Drury will do fine as GM.

Honestly, the worst part about this besides JD going as well, is all the brainless Caps fans who have deluded themselves into thinking Tom Wilson is causing the downfall of the Rangers.

Other than the fact Zibanejad is our greatest positional weakness, I think he would be the perfect odd man out for a shake up. I think the fact they didn't end up naming him captain says something

Could you parlay him into two young centers of a different mold though?

What if you could get Glass and Krebs and a defenseman and a pick for him?

Interestingly enough, Drury was instrumental in the path we’ve taken.

Also be careful what you wish for when Kakko and/or Laf are shopped.
Please dont scare me like that man. We would actually become the knicks

His trades with Tampa were brutal...I agree it was a time for a change there, he had gotten too comfortable

To be clear, I don’t hate JD or Gorton. I wouldn’t even necessarily say they did a horrible job.

But there were some absurd takes being throw around here. And just constant ignorant denial every time drama happened.
Same here. I have liked what Gorton is doing. JD hasn’t really been here long enough to do much but he has been one of my favorites forever. And I think most fans agree. Which is why this is all so baffling.

I missed something on messier? how could any of us bash him especially in this way? Did he kill someone or something?

Went on Michael Kay's showing and slurped up Wilson and basically begged for the head coaching job like an orphan from Oliver Twist.

so Gorton is overrated yet Drury, with no experience, will be fine. Thanks

The one major thing about this is that it's likely an endorsement of Quinn. If he was going to get fired, have to believe it would have happened then. Doesn't make much sense to drop the axe on two others but leave him unless you are sticking with him next season.

This is as bad as firing Gorton and JD. I guess Dolan is another person the used car salesman charmed.

Put me firmly in this category. He wasn’t bad, per say. But he wasn’t good, and most of this board inexplicably thought he was great.

That would be way too young of a center core so I'd maybe try to get one higher end young center for him and then go out and get a grittier vet. Maybe Kadri?

Can we add Lindholm?
And for 3 easy payments of $39.95 you can also have Johnny G. But that’s not all! If you call now, for just $19.95, you can get 50% retention on Johnny Hockey’s current AND future contract. That’s Montefiore doing more.
