That's rich coming from a Hawks fan with your never ending rebuild. Looking forward to watching the Hawks in the playoffs in 2032

Everyone agrees he sucks on the PP, but the real question worth asking is does he suck at it because he's never on it, or is he never on it because he sucks at it? Have to give him 20+ games on PP1 before we can definitively say. He's looked pretty decent up there the last couple games.

PP2 was always atrocious for them so it's hard to judge. Kakko belongs nowhere near a PP unit and they just kept pumping PP2 shifts into him.
Rebuilding after winning 3 cups in a 6 year span is a hell of a lot better than botching a rebuild and being mediocre with nothing to show for it like the sorry ass rangers have been since 2000.

Enjoy wasting yet another goalie’s career and surrounding him with nothing but a bunch of past their prime players and draft busts

This also kind of shows that laf given proper PP time likely has better stats. In fact laf in any team outside rangers likely has more points. KK always felt he didn't get given proper deployment in NYR and were seeing that play out in real time.

Laf is a solid NHL player. Anyone arguing otherwise is out of touch. That said this contract may not be as bad as some expect since caps going up but likely he'll be over paid a million or two. Which isn't really the end of the world.

Plus he still has time to grow. I'd not give up on him yet. In fact some team could possibly trade for him and turn that into a decent deal with proper deployment.

Then again what do I know. I'm just a dumb Sens fan....🤷

Perhaps, but the dude has 2 points on 83:33 of Powerplay time this season. At what point will people realize the chicken or egg of it may just be reversed?

221/232 PPP/60 with at least 65 minutes on the season. Not exactly making a case for a promotion.

Hmm ok, didn't realize it was this level of non production there. I took all the he doesn't get much pp time posts to mean..far less then 2 points in 83 pp minutes. That's not really acceptable. As I don't watch 82 rangers games, failed to see things were this challenging with him

Complex issues with this player it seems.

He's not proven to be a very good PP player based on the eye test, but his p/60 numbers are going to be significantly deflated by playing second fiddle to a dominant PP1 unit, as he'll start most of his PP shifts in his own zone after PP1 gets off the ice at the tail end of the PP following a clear from the opposition.

Let's look at 65-100 minutes

80 qualifiers. LaFreniere is 35/80 in total powerplay time and 45/80 in PP TOI Per Game amongst that 80. So he's clearly in a mid-point to be representative for him while still having a broad enough player base to compare.

In terms of Powerplay Points Per 60 amongst that 80, Lafreniere is 73/80.

Look at a kid like Shane Wright, same powerplay usage time, 2nd unit. 9 powerplay points on the season. 9th out of 80 on the aforemetioned PPP/60 list. That's a kid making a case to get a promotion in terms of their powerplay usage.

Seattle runs 2 units pretty evenly - PP1 plays like 55-60% of their PP time. NYR's first unit plays like 70%+ of their PP time. So it's a tough comparison to draw.

You'd really want to compare him to guys who play PP2 behind dominant PP1 units, like Colorado, Edmonton, Vegas etc.

Iirc PP1's xGF/60 actually went up this season once Lafreniere replaced Kreider on PP1, but I can't find the specific dates to pull the numbers. Using pre-Christmas and post Christmas, the Rangers PP as a whole goes from an xGF/60 of 8 (17th leaguewide) to one of 12.43 (3rd leaguewide)
