Not sure if it's accurate, but some guy on the Flyers board (that seems to be) in the know says the Rangers are going to start negotiating with Trouba tomorrow and they expect to have a long term deal ironed out before the draft on Friday

Wouldn’t surprise me at all. I think they know what the price is, and I honestly think they aren’t even blinking in that regard.

This is the type of deal where it’s definitely easier to be the Rangers than it is someone like Carolina.

On that same note, I am also getting responses with the Rangers thinking that Florida might make a move to get a negotiation window with Panarin. Which leads me to believe this was a deal the Rangers wanted DONE now.

Rangers will still actively be looking to get a second guy they like in the first. It just means the 20th isn’t in play...which I am not sure it ever really was TBH.

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that, based on your word choice here, you're basing this assertion largely based on shot metrics.

And I can only really respond by saying my evaluations of better and worse are not perfectly correlated with those.

Shots Attempts, scoring chances for and against and his effects on players in these categories when he plays with them and he doesn't.

The SA ratios are overrated. The ratio of Scoring chances for/against however are not. They're almost equally as bad against top competition, middle competition and bottom line competition so the "he played against all of the other teams best players" argument doesn't fit either.

He and Pionk were reallllyy bad for one another, but they were both still pretty bad when they were paired with other players (except when Pionk played with Hajek.)

My assessment is more eye test based than analytics based. He's a liability even in a bottom pairing role.

Don't mean to look at this negatively because this is a great trade in almost every scenario BUT what if A) Trouba doesn't sign long term for whatever reason and B) Plays well and gets the team close to playoff race (like Montreal had this year) and we end up just missing the playoffs and not trading Trouba??? We get nothing for him plus end up picking 15th or so with no chance at a top 5 pick.

Put my head down and said a small prayer. First saw #20 and honestly I got a little disappointed because I’ve been jonesing to see who would fall to us there but then I saw Pionk and nothing else and...

After I saw the tweet about no conditionals I had to smack myself in the face and pinch myself to wake up.

I had a similar reaction. A high school friend from NY texted me while I was making dinner. He only texts when he wants to talk Rangers.

I'm pinching myself, but the Rangers should be talking to both EDM, ARI and BUF for their picks.

I can see Kreider to EDM for the 8th with a sweetener being added in from the Rangers. Whether that's a contract coming back or another player, or to ARI.

BUF has a 3rd that should be a nice return for Vesey.

You can still rebuild by selling off at this draft.

Biggest question mark is if they can swing a Shattenkirk deal.

This is just tremendous. It is so rare to get a player of this caliber at age 25. Especially a RHD. I've liked Trouba since I watched him at the WJC for Team USA. This is shaping up to be a fantastic week with the draft on Friday.

Kreider or Buch, and Vesey.

Following the Trouba deal, if the Rangers have a FWD contract they can lineup with Shatty, I think they’d also take that into account.

So all things being equal, I get the sense the Rangers would love to:

1. Move Buch/Kreider to get their guy in the draft, and move Vesey as part of another deal. It’s possible he could join Kreider/Buch, but I only see that happening in one potential scenario.

2. Move Shatty for a similar contract on the wings.

3. See Fox make squad out of camp.

Essentially replace Kreider, Vesey, Pionk and Shatty on the roster with Kravtsov, Kakko, Fox, Trouba, and the forward they get for Shatty, plus have the forward they take in 2019 join the squad in 2020.

I’m more chapped that he didn’t want to play here.
If he signs with you I think you’re going to be very happy.
A lot of our board are having kittens right now.

This is an absolute steal that I haven’t seen in ages. I wanted Trouba, yet I didn’t want to move that 20th overall pick and more assets. But I don’t care anymore. The only problem with this trade is that it’s in the midst of a rebuild. Other than that, this doesn’t feel real. How did JG pull this off? f***ing hell. We essentially traded Pionk and 20-30 games of Hayes for Trouba and Lemieux. Our right side is SET with Trouba (if he signs here long term), ADA, and Fox. GMJG has done it again.
